he does not look bad, but he does not look amazing either ? , mostly I would ask that you try and complete some other peices, what it looks here is as if you just primed him black, and drybrushed ? or basecoated the model dark angel green.

I dont know if you tried doing some highligths by outlining the armour but generaly people but a dab of either white paint, or use a color thats slightly lighter to outline the edges.

Besides that he's missing some stuff , try to "complete" him per say, and then come back with a result unless there is a specific piece of the model you would want somebody to grade.

I don't know about you but when I have to paint 30 orks or more, I generaly finish (in no particular order) skin 1st , then guns, than pants , teeth, etc.

For space marines its ultimately up to the painter, either you do all armour 1st , then guns, most importantly have fun! and just get a minature completely finished to the best of your abilities, the 1st model is always best since you remember what you painted it like forever and obviously you can see your progress with time passing.

Have Fun !

I washed with Bieltan Green between the base and the layer and after the layer. I guess my main concern is so far, is this going in the right direction?

This model doesn't look half bad! You're definitely going in the right direction. My suggestion would be to keep practicing your brush control to keep your lines straight and be sure to always thin your paint. A few spots look like you have a bit of paint built up, so just remember that multiple thin coats is always better than a single thick coat.

Keep cranking out minis, and you'll be surprised at how much better you get. Each one will be a little better than the last!

I can see now thats a mistake that you've pointed that out. I didnt think too much of it at the time.
Not a problem! I'm pretty damn new to painting as well, so I know how daunting it can be.

Need advice on my current space marine

Best help I can give:

1) Before priming try to remove all the mold lines on the marine. Bad spots for them is: outside of leg and at knee pad, along the round of the backpack vents, shoulderpads on the box set marines and the line across the top of the head. Top right of shoulder looks like it needed a bit of smoothing out.

2) Are you looking for a cameo / battle worn look? If so, it looks good so far and will need brighter and narrower edging to pull it together possibly like the Warpstone Glow you mentioned. At this stage it looks a bit blobby but that is normal. If you are looking for a shinier marine, a wash with a color between Caliban Green and Bieltan Green to blend the transition would help.

3) What color is the chest plate wings going to be, tactical symbol and dark angel symbol? Red is the contrasting color but some get afraid of getting too much of a Christmas theme. Where do you think you will paint your metalics? I found there was a point of doing too many made the model look busy or junky. Go with what you think best.

4) Some attention to the base to fill in the slot and add detail will be any easy way to pretty it up.

What I see so-far and much of this you may have already thought of.

Good Luck!
