Battle for the abyss - Know no fear canon *SPOILERS*

Hi,

So i've read know no fear a few months back and just got and finished a copy of battle for the abyss and was wondering about a few inconsistencies in the storyline between the 2 books considering battle for the abyss is like a prologue for know no fear.

In know no fear, i don't remember any mention of a gigantic sized battleship like the furious abyss being mentioned spearheading the wordbearer advance. considering that the whole ultramar fleet would've gotten on red alert the moment something as big as the abyss emerged from the warp while in know no fear, when kor phaerons fleet arrives, the ultramar fleet was still on stand down because they thought the wordbearers were there as their allies. and Kor phaeron was seen saying in the end of battle for the abyss that the ultramarines know they are coming now and that they'd be ready for them, in know no fear the ultramarines DO know the word bearers are coming because the warmaster told them they'd be coming as part of the joint effort against the orkz.

Maybe i'm just missing something here.

Battle for the abyss - Know no fear canon *SPOILERS*

Nope, I have the same issue as well. BftA seems to have the notion that the attack is to be a surprise one, with their approach being masked by the use of their mutant psykers, the Supplicants.

Despite it being an inferior book, I prefer the notion of the surprise attack I think. It seems to follow the IA article closer as that mentions that Lorgar is joining Horus forces on Terra and this explains why the Ultamarines were absent from the defence of the Palace.

Battle for the abyss - Know no fear canon *SPOILERS*

From the perspective of the ultramarines the furious abyss was just a word bearers ship that exploded when it exited from the warp, easy enough to call an accident by anyone that asked, this is pretty much what happened with the scrap code, an excuse can be made and it would be accepted, after all were all loyalists right?

Battle for the abyss - Know no fear canon *SPOILERS*

The Furious Abyss wasn't bound for Calth, it had another destination and was a key component in Kor Phaerons plan.
It never reached it's destination, I think it's mentioned somewhere about the Cestus sending word of the treachery to the Ultramarines, but don't hold me to that one.

Your explanation is true but it contradicts what was said in BftA. In Know No Fear the Word Bearers are traveling to Utramar under the guise of allies and the Ultramarines are expecting them. In BftA it's a surprise attack that goes wrong due to the failure of the Abyss and the Ultramarines are able to form some defence.
