Need help on Urban Bases....

Hey guys!

I've always been a fan of Cities of Death, and with my Grey Knights, I've been painting up their bases as concrete/urban style so they'd fit better. However they've been looking bland lately and I would like to give them a little more life. Any ideas?

Think the battle for Helsreach/Siege of Vraks for my idea of Urban combat. Cities, roads, rubble, buildings. I just have a hard time figuring out what to put on the bases.

Oh btw does anyone know of any good sites that sell basing materials? Flock, paints, bits and pieces of just random stuff like bricks?

For basing materials check the stores at the top of this:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/373197.page

If you would rather buy some premade ones, here's a whole list:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/353268.page

I particularly like the bases and selection from this company:
http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/battle-bases-c-3.html

Re:Need help on Urban Bases....

I did urban bases for my Tau, and honestly you need something to break up the grey. I've used small brass beads from the jewelry section of a craft store to act as spent cases, thrown in some bits from other kits, used plastic i-beams from model train scenery, or even just painted up bits of chopped up sprue to look like garbage. Paperclips can be bent pipes or rebar, extra wires can be downed power lines...just clean out the back of your junk drawer and see what you can do.

If you have some left over vehicle bits, those look good, too. A broken door or lost tire can look good on big bases.

Here's an example - I threw in some bolter cases, some rebar and a space marine helmet.
