Scratch hell pit abomination

I had an idea that you could mash together a hell pit abomination out of joke-shop platic rats.
I mean buy a few of them, take a load of heads and legs, tails etc off them.
Stick together and then paper over the gaps with filler.
And voila, a game ready HPA.
I know it is not meeting the GW 50% rule or whatever, but I don't play in tournaments or the shop, so it should be fine, right?

Has anyone else tried this before?

Scratch hell pit abomination

Converting cheap toys (if we're talking organic forms, not vehicles) can be a tall order, as the molded detail is frequently lacking and they aren't always sculpted fully in the round (i.e. sculpted top and sides, but the bottom is flat and bare). If you find decent base toys and put in a good bit of sculpting work, though, it could work out rather nicely. As you already know, it may not fly in a GW store, but most opponents in friendly games at independent shops or at clubs/homes would likely be fine with it, especially if the result is attractive (perhaps not the best choice of words for an abomination, but we're talking about the Rule of Cool, here). Haven't seen any examples for the exact model you're talking about that I could point you to, unfortunately, but converting cheap toys is an age-old fantasy/sci-fi wargaming tradition.
