It was hard to find official images of various famous Regiments so this is the best I could do.

The Canadians in that picture are from around 1917 - Canadian forces between 1939-1945 used BRENs not Lewis Guns, they didn't wear puttee's & the shape of the tin hat was slightly different. Their equipment aped that of the British army (Canada is still a Commonwealth country). So to say Cadians are based off of Canadians is to say they were also based off of the British army, Indian army, Australian army & those from other Commonwealth Countries pre-1945.

The source where I downloaded this picture said this was from 1944, in England at training for D-Day.

The wiki (http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Praetorian_Guard) has a 2 good drawings of them. One of them is a nice fit for the post you put the Brit soldier in so it might make a good comparison. The other is from the only real fluff they are in, the Massacre at Big Toof Ridge

But I do love the Preatorians. Im sad to see them out of production....


Also, I wouldn't say the USN uniform for Mordians. Especially not the modern uniforms, and that's coming from someone who is looking at my brother-in-laws right now. I mean, you can make the connection but it's a stretch. As I've pointed out repeatedly in the past, the Mordian Iron Guard uniforms and that distinctive blue uniform owe more to the French & German uniforms of the Franco-Prussian war and the mid-late c19 Imperial power troops & their tactics than a dress uniform of a single Corps of troops from the US Navy;

They don't I'm afraid. Franco-Prussian war - no American Marines in that. Too many incosistancies for it to be based off of the US Marine Corp uniform. The hats, style of uniform and colour scheme ape those of the French & Prussian armies of the Franco-Prussian war too closely to be anywhere near the Marine Corps dress uniform. A couple of similarities does not compare to direct imitations*. Besides the Mordian means of waging warfare once again directly apes the Imperial armies of the latter half of the c19.

As for how well-known the US Marine Corp uniforms are, if a picture hadn't been posted earlier in the thread I wouldn't know off the top of my head. They're not that famous outside America.

Blue tunic
Blue trousers
Red seam
Red piping

French & Prussian uniforms of 1870 similarities to standard Mordian Iron Guard uniform colours;
Blue tunic

Red piping
Red cuffs/turnbacks
Red & blue collar
Yellow French infantry epaulettes (light infantry ones I believe)
Prussian cap in French blue whilst retaining the red band.

Worth noting, also that the US Marine Corp tunic is far too dark, more like early c19 Prussian blue than the lighter French blue used for the Mordians.

No, it's about the inspiration behind the uniforms & tactics and my point still stands about the Canadian regiments being the same as the British regiments - equipped, organised and trained in the same way, using the same tactics & strategies. This was to create uniformity amongst the Commonwealth troops so they could easily work together because they all fought the same way. The Canadian thing I find is a desperate attempt to try and nail the Cadian's down as a direct link. It just does not have enough basis behind it. Yes the Canadians were good soldiers but so were the British soldiers, the ANZACs, the Indians, the Sikhs and especially the Ghurka's, not to mention the other troops from all over the Commonwealth. Wonder why they were all so good? Perhaps because they were all well trained?

Frankly anyone who can't get the link between the two has either extremely limited knowledge of the late c19 or has not seen anything from popular media about that period (i.e. the film Zulu). Even as a child when they were released I was able to directly pin them down as copies of c19 British troops in foreign service uniforms (white pith - black pith was for home service/in Europe).

Also I'd pop in a picture of the Long-Range Desert Group for the Tallarn - their ways of waging war in the desert during the 1940s are akin to those used by the Arabs & Bedouin and I'm pretty sure they are a part of the inspiration behind the Tallarn;

Oh I know. For some odd reason, a lot of people at my FLGS can't understand the broader connection. They already went over this, but blue uniforms for americans are rather generic outisde of the US, so they probably weren't the intent when the Mordians were designed. GW have always looked to historical conflicts for inspiration for the Imperial Guard regiments (with one or two exceptions perhaps), which is why the Death Korp are made up from the French, German, British & Belgian uniforms from the Great War and why the Tallarn are reminiscent of the Bedouin mixed with the Long Range Desert Group. They weren't going to go "Hmm we have this regiment we're basing around discipline, close order drill, volley fire and so on, we need a uniform. I know, the US Marine Corps has a snazzy dress uniform, we'll base their appearance on that!" The appearance of the regiment goes hand in hand with their historical equivalents and the tactics they used.
