Help on painting

I need help on painting my tyranids. I'll make any model and after about 5 mins I notice spots that I missed and little spots that are hard to fill. This is mainly my genestealers and gaunts, strangely my zoanthrope never had that problem. Any help? Also, whenever I paint my snow bases I take a look at my model and a giant white spot will randomly appear. If anyone has any advice it for painting I would appreciate it.

You're not supposed to paint snow anyway, it's now something you'd do unless you're replicating blood effects. If you're missing spots then go slower painting.

Help on painting

Usually if I've missed little spots, it's because I was rushing a bit. Missing bits that need paint, or getting tiny bits of snow on the minis may just be the result of something simple like that.

Just take the time to be thorough, when it starts to get tedious, take a break.

Help on painting

Agreed. If you didn't notice a bit of brush slip as it happened, you're probably rushing. If you've missed portions of the model while painting, you're probably rushing. Slowing down a bit to ensure thoroughness is well worth it - sometimes, you actually end up saving time by avoiding the necessity of touch-ups. At the very least, your painted results will be much better for it.

If simply slowing down doesn't seem to help, force yourself to be more methodical. Use the model's sculpt to break it down into distinct segments, like the panels on a tank, and paint each one completely before moving on to the next. Painting from the inside out (deep recesses first, projecting parts last) helps avoid having to go back in to touch up hard to reach areas and reduces the risk of ruining subsequent painting. It may be a bit mind-numbing, at first, if you're used to blowing through models, but it becomes second nature quickly enough. After a while, you'll be painting at the same speed, but with far fewer errors.

That's good advice. Though tedious, painting my GH have gotten much easier, and the quality better, when I became more methodical and developed a routine.

Yeah I must be rushing. When I paint bases I give them white on top then I add a little cottony fluff to make it look like they re kicking up snow. Thanks for the advice. I went over all my models yesterday and fixed them.

You can also prime with a darker color such that missed spots naturally look like shadows. What color scheme are you painting your figures? Also, thin your paints a bit as they will flow into the little cracks better and washes are another way of hitting those spots.

I use sotek green for skin, ulthuan grey for claws and teeth and snow, naggaroth night for shell, Khorne red for tongues and sometimes eyes, and finally a moot green for those openings in the skin and tubes. Khorne red is also the color I use for the guns and I prime with chaos black.

Sorry for the giant list
