How to use transfers?

I have decided to use transfers for the details on my models because my free hand is terrible. I read a thread a while ago in which someone mentioned a couple of chemicals or something they use to make the transfers stick better and follow the contours of the model. I have searched but couldn't find the thread again. Does anyone know the names of the chemicals (or whatever they are) to which I am referring? I tried pitting the transfers on using water but it looks awful.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Never mind, I've found what I was looking for.

For the rest out there, the compounds do two things: smooth the surface and dissolve the film containing the print on stuff.

As for what to buy:
Micro-sol and Micro-set
or
Vallejo Decal Medium and Decal Fix
http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/es_ES/applying-decals/blog/1/35
or
Gloss coat and vinegar

Look in scale model shops for the first two, there are also other similar products.
