First Ever Miniture

Hello all, wargaming as always interested me for quite a few years but i have never took the plunge. Bought a few space marine squads a few years ago but never got round to painting them. So anyway, my nepthew has got really involved in Warhammer Fantasy but had no-one to play with so i took it apon myself to go out and get the Island Of Blood set so we could play together (and i could finally do something better with my time than watch tv and work ). So here is my first of many high elves:

Please tell me what you think , and feel free to give any tips.

p.s. how on earth do you guys paint flesh? I pretty much gave up due to the tiny size.

I still have my first models, they've never been repainted, if you ever need an ego boost. I did a terrible job of painting some orks for example...I can even tell my first one straight away. It looks like I just poured the paint straight on.

That looks a lot better than my first model, I'll tell you that right now. For the flesh, what I do on models to get them done quickly, is paint it with the desired flesh color, and wash brown. This can either be done with one of the GW shade paints, or mixing up a 2:1 or so ratio of water to brown paint, and lightly covering the face with it. It does wonders for adding realism to models quickly.

Yes, it will make the high points a little darker too, but not nearly as much as the recesses, and it's the contrast that matter most.

Other than the face being quite rough and undefined, I agree that it's a pretty nice attempt for a first mini. Your paint job looks quite clean - good detailing and smooth joins between colors. You made good color choices. You've got a base that's more than just green paint on sand. Overall, it's a great place to start.

Have fun!
