Didn't think about washing, thought it would make it too dark. Will deffinatly give it a try on the next one

The point of it being a wash is that it's thin enough so that most of it will run into the recesses. Yes, it will make the high points a little darker too, but not nearly as much as the recesses, and it's the contrast that matter most.

Other than the face being quite rough and undefined, I agree that it's a pretty nice attempt for a first mini. Your paint job looks quite clean - good detailing and smooth joins between colors. You made good color choices. You've got a base that's more than just green paint on sand. Overall, it's a great place to start.
