Spray guns - any good?

I am looking for a better way to paint my hoard of terrain than simply using a spray can. I've been told a spray gun is much better but having never used one I am not clear on its benefits.

Having looked into them I've found the GW one but is it any good?

Spray guns - any good?

The GW one (from what I've heared) is basically just for base coating and nothing more.

I was looking into buying one myself but instead decided on a rather cheap but reliable airbrush set up I found on Ebay. Well worth it IMO!

The airbrush and stuff cost me around $70. I already had a compressor though so...

you can get fairly cheap airbrush kits from Harbor Freight if you have one near you. I think I got my basic one with a tiny compressor for around $25-$45 I can't remember. Better still is that their year long extended warranty is $5 and allows you to swap out your kit for a brand new one for any reason including general wear and tear so you can swap it out a year later for a brand new kit

I have much the same problem, though with the added temptation of knowing that the paint I want, I've only found for airbrush...

I need a cheap set but, I refuse to give GW money, its been twenty years, I cant change that, not now...

Edit: Did find this and started to wonder if it was any good though http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOP-END-AIRBRUSH-COMPRESSOR-AS18-NEW-AIR-BRUSH-KIT-/380296526063?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item588b7078ef

Re:Spray guns - any good?

I've been looking heavily into it as well, especially considering I am starting an army soon and are not looking forward to base coating all models by hand. Let alone the follow up of detail to boot.

The GW spray gun as others have said is pretty good for base coating, and a little bit of angle highlighting (according to the Citadel paint guide) - although if you have looked at what some airbrushes can do on YouTube such as AwesomePaintJob, the GW one won't get near that.

The benefits to the spray gun from GW would be decreased time to base coat and overall highlight that would take you a while to do by hand. The downside would be I have no idea how long those gas canisters they sell last for, and they cost a fair bit.

For the same outlay it would cost you to get that GW spray gun plus all the canisters for a 1000 point army lets say. You would be better off buying a decent airbrush and compressor. eBay is a decent source for these, although I personally wouldn't skimp on a compressor for safety.
