Painting Plague Marines

I recently began converting a Nurgle themed CSM army and I'm having trouble getting the paint job on the Plague Marines to look right. Every time I try painting one I feel like I'm washing out the colors to much in an attempt to make it look rusty and gross, but it turns out looking like a mess (in my opinion). Is there an easier way to paint Plague Marines without having this happen?

Sample of one I painted:
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt252/StickyZombie/061_zps74649f22.jpg
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/tt252/StickyZombie/063_zps02197182.jpg

Looks nice. I would put the pics on Dakka though, it would get more replies.

For rust, go for a dark red-brown as base, then sponge orange on. It works wonders and looks great.

For gross, do blood/slime and use gloss varnish.

Lucarikx

Your paint looks very thick and gloppy...I would either thin the paints, or drybrush them on, drybrushing works particularly well for Nurgle. I would build up from brown to green, whatever particular shade of green suits your fancy. When you're done, hit it with a wash of your choice if you feel it's necessary, though you may not need to.

for rusty parts, I am partial to using brown ink or pigment to get the rust effect...brown ink is easiest, just make sure you're controlling where it goes.

Here is my way (the metal looks rusty too afterwards)

Prime grey (although any colour would probably be fine)
Basecoat Nurgling Green
Drybrush ushabti bone
Drybrush white (very light)
Paint any metal areas as normal
Wash everything with a 1:1 mix of Agrax Earthshade and Serephim Sepia

Best of luck

Here is my rust technique: I paint the model in whatever natural colour
then wash brown
then drybrush silver and wash brown
then drybrush brown
then drybrush/stipple brown and orang mix
then lightly stipple orange

I used boltgun metal, mournfang brown, blazing orang and gryphonne sepia wash. Hope this helps
