Hey, i have listened to other people and made a list for 2000 points of Tyranids which i think could work well, i just need to know strengths and weaknesses of this army and what armies i need to look out for and just anything else i can improve on, thanks

HQ:

Swarmlord with telepathy powers and 2 Tyrant guard with lash whips:
410

Elites:

The Doom of Malan'tai in a Mycetic spore:
130

2 Hive guard:
100

2 Hive guard:
100

8 Ymgarl genestealers:
184

8 Ymgarl Genestealers:
184

Troops:

10 Termagants:
50

10 Termagants:
50

10 Termagants:
50

Tervigon with Catalyst and toxin sacs:
185

Tervigon with the same stuff:
185

Tervigon with the same stuff:
185

Heavy Support:

Trygon Prime:
240

1998 points

Re:Warhammer 40k 2,000 point Tyranid army list strengths and weaknesses

Try 3 helldrakes and an allied vendetta and let me know how you get on ... seriously, you have nothing to really hit vehicles at range and certainly not flyers. 4 hive guard, only 2 of which can be given preferred enemy is not going to kill a single flyer.

For this reason I think dakka flyrants become almost mandatory at this level. Your list is also very slow and flyrants would help with this.

Re:Warhammer 40k 2,000 point Tyranid army list strengths and weaknesses

Yes, i was thinking about adding a dakka flyrant but it would still be hard to take out things like heldrakes. I have looked at what others are doing for taking out flyers and there is not much and i think 260 points just to, maybe do dmg to those sorta things, yes it is fast and provides synapse, but it can be shot down easily. I need to either use the hive guards or find another way around flyers

Re:Warhammer 40k 2,000 point Tyranid army list strengths and weaknesses

You have 5 elite choices. If you were trying to utilize the double FOC at 2k points you'll need another HQ.

I agree with ruminator; a dakka flyrant would be an excellent addition to your list. It will provide a very mobile and dangerous threat to your opponent and it will fill your requirement for your double FOC (if that's what you were going for). I might even try swapping one unit of ymgarls out for some zoanthropes. They can provide excellent buffs/debuffs to your army and they give you an additional source of synapse and SiTw. Good luck with your list!

Re:Warhammer 40k 2,000 point Tyranid army list strengths and weaknesses

The two army types that give me the most trouble are A) Parking Lots and B) Dangerous Aerial Spam. Your list only has long distance power in the Ymgarls which I find to be 'OK' at best - as well as a possible Deep Striking Tyrgon which isn't overly an appealing idea either. I wouldn't go so far as to say you should remove these, just that I'm not crazy about them.

In my experience the perfect number of Tervigons is two, once you exceed this there is a diminishing returns as well as increases body count to suffer from Tervigon death explosions. If you cut one out as well as her follow-up Termagaunt Brood, you open 235 points as written. Following this, I would also drop a single Tyrant Guard (having one utilizes Iron Arm Toughness bonus saving points) and remove their lash whips (Swarmlord is initiaive 6, who are you afraid of going after?) - now you're at 305. This value should be sent directly into either anti-air, deep striking, or both.

As pointed out you're using double FOC, which means you need another HQ if you're keeping the build. My first suggestion would be to pick up the discussed Flyrant whom you give Hive Commander to. Next sacrifice the number of Ymgarls you feel is right to upgrade a Termagaunt squad with Devourers and body count, then Outflank them. Alternatively, Mycetic Spore drop Carnifex, Gargoyle Brood, or Zoanthropes in Mycetic Spores.

This is of course all assuming this is a take-all-comers list, if you know you're facing off say a Blood Angel who is bringing everything to you mostly on the ground, then by all means ignore me.

Ok, i have removed 1 squad of Ymgarls and kept the Trygon, i still like them
i also removed 1 Tervigon and 1 termagants squad.
Added a Dakka flyrant: 260
btw i put lash whips on the tyrant guard so that it is almost guaranteed that i will strike first, even if they have a rule to lower my I, we still strike at the same time, not second, and i am keeping 2 tyrant guard because with some shooty army, they can really hurt my Swarmlord, so i am bring 2 instead.
Bring 20 gargoyles in a mycetic spore: adding 160 points, 1999 points overall.
But can gargoyles bring mycetic spores?

Also, roll on telepathy for swarmlord until (not sure if you have to declare how many rolls beforehand or if you can roll until you get what you want) you get gate of infinity so you can get into combat safer and quicker.
