space wolves wolf blob. cheesy?

I had been having a lot of problems with the local tau player even pre-new codex (maybe i just suck X.x). He would bring crisis suit blobs with max drones on each suit armed with fusion/ TL plasma. Im not sure if I was just unlucky or just not very good at tactics but I could never catch them.
I tried drop pods but couldn't assault the turn they came in and he always found a new spot to hide. I tried flat out transports but had the same "cant assault" problem after disembarking...assuming they even made it to his lines with railguns usually aimed at them.
Shooting at them proved fruitless with their 3+ 4++ save and his aggravating above average rolling...always.

So recently I purchased some fenrisians wolves to goof around with and had the idea for a puppy power blob. I stuck a wolf lord on a thunderwolf mount, gave him runic armor, TH, SS and saga of the wolfkin. Then just attach him to whatever size puppy squad you feel necessary. He sits in front while they run 12" up the field ignoring difficult/dangerous training and reroll their run first turn with fleet to get as close as possible. Second turn they move 12" again and assault. rerolling charge range. Depending on how ballsy you feel about your ability to roll 2+ saves you can soak tons of fire with the wolf lord and anything you think may be too risky...look out sir and splat goes a puppy on a 2+. Once in CC the saga lets the wolves attack at I5 which is great against MEQ although unnecessary against tau, then after they go the str10 hammer with a boatload of attacks ID the crap out of stuff.

The first time I used this against him it cut a huge swath of destruction across his units in the first 3 turns. The next few games didnt go much different. He seemed quite upset and I can't really blame him with how badly it went and started worrying that maybe I had gone to far into cheese territory for our friendly games. Would any of you consider this to be kind of cheesy?
Also on a side note...can a tau suit commander los onto the drones of his bodyguards/squad mates? Or can he only los onto his own drones or the bodyguards/squadmates them selves. Also can the squadmates los onto their own drones?

No if he is using lots of crisis suits with weapons that are fully against Space Wolves, why can't you use fenrisian wolves?

Double check your movement. Isn't a Wolf Lord on a wolf considered cavalry? They do not ignore cover like the wolves do, which are beasts. Am I right here?

looking at it now. pg48 of the brb. beasts move 12" and are not slowed by diff. terrain (even when charging)

cavalry move 12" and are not slowed by diff. terrain (even when charging) however they treat diff. terrain as dangerous terrain.

Both beasts and cavalry have fleet. cavalry have hammer of wrath (so i get 1 impact hit on a charge from the wolf lord) and beasts have move through cover.

and since move through cover is a "contagious" special rule...the wolf lord gets it since hes in the squad with the wolves.

move through cover gives benefits to moving in diff terrain which is irrelevant since they ignore diff terrain from another source..but the gem here is it also allows units to auto-pass dangerous terrain checks. so the cavalry treating difficult terrain as dangerous terrain auto-passes those tests.

thusly....the whole squad ignores diff and dangerous terrain even when charging. =D

Its just one unit with those wolves? he hasnt learned they are the threat and is shooting them down?

If you took.....2 lord with fenresian wolves than maybe.....but still.

I think what you are experiencing is what happens with all friendly games. It is like the cold war/or well..war in general really (but you know for fun) one side gets the upper hand an and the loser doesnt want to lose all the damn time, so you find a new combo and now your the man but you have in essence power creeped your games, and now the next move is his. Does he discover and bring the next weapon of disaster that spells immediate death for your wolves, and then you escalate further....

UNTIL YUO ARE BOTH POWER GAMERS AND THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!!!!

NOW FIGHT!!!

i actually lol'd when i read that....haha. Sadly that may be whats happening. DO NOT WANT. yes its just one squad of 15 wolves with the wolf lord. 17 wolves if i give him the 2 bodyguard wolves...if i had more wolves anyway. but if he ignores them they really do rip him a new one the second they get in CC. 45 puppy attacks on a charge at I5 and 6 STR10 WS6 attacks at I1 pretty much ends his squads.
