Basing models with ice...

I am creating a chaos warriors army, and I want ice on their bases (yeah, I know, chaos warriors with ice and snow is COMPLETELY unoriginal, but it looked so cool I couldn't help myself). Thing is, I would really rather not be forced to use resin or anything, so I'm kinda lookin' for a way to do without it. If it's the only way for it to look good, though, I'll take it.

Anyone got any ideas?

I noticed that superglue turns white in water and when fished out will set white and slightly translucent. You have to watch it in big amounts as little pockets of unset glue will survive the water and pop when you handle it.

In big enough quantities...maybe.

You could also get some transparent plastic and saw it up. Collect all the dust that comes off, superglue that in blobs.(just thought of that one) will give a blobby, granular effect.

The sprue from gw or any other model kit with a clear canopy would give you hard edged "ice" formations. Mix that with your snow flock of choice and you might be on your way.

Basing models with ice...

Here's the superglue snow/ice thing in action.

Wet a piece of transparent plastic sheet(like off an old DVD box) and simply drop some super glue onto it. Let it set for five seconds and dip the whole thing into a bowl of water for a few more secs. The water makes it set quick and white. Instant icey snowy replica. The larger ones only took one layer of glue.
You can peel the snow/ice off the plastic sheeting in one go quite easily. The glue will be still wet underneath so watch it. Use a stanley knife, as I did.
You can then glue the gluey snow onto a base.
You could just apply it straight to the base and dip that. Repeat the process a few times on the same area to get snow.

Not bad. You can even shatter it. As shown This works best on card because you have to have an air dried puddle so it transparent. The glue tends to take ages to dry on plastic sheeting. Let it set in a puddle then bend the card so the glue snaps into shardyness.
