FLUFF TALK *Loud guitar screeching* Ep 2

Yo! How's it going guys? Captain Ironblood with some more Fluff Talk! Sorry I've taken so long posting the next installment, but I've been swamped with school work, regular work, and I've been sick the last few days. But now I'm back, and with more fluff on the way!
This 2nd thread was suggested by some community members over the past few days, and though not a subject talked about much, it is still very interesting. So let's dive in and discuss the Sisters of Silence!

The Sisters of Silence, also known as the Silent Sisterhood, are the military arm of the Adaptus Astra Telepathica. These female fetales and their organization date back many years, even predating the Horus Heresy. They are an all female force in charge of rounding up rogue psykers on their Black Ships and delivering them to their fortress, the Somnus Citadel, on Luna.

Their name comes from the oath each Sister takes upon being initiated into the ranks of the Sisterhood. They are not allowed to talk ever again (harsh, right?) Their only means of communication is through a sign language of sorts.

But not every female could join the Sisterhood. They are strictly recruited from the stock of Untouchables, also known as Blanks. What are Blanks, you ask? To put it simply, they are individuals who have no trace of psychic power or presence in the Warp. They are unaffected by psychic powers and are anathema to psykers. Their mere presence can disturb a psyker, making them ideal witch hunters and psyker jailers.

The Sisters of Silence participated in some of the major actions of the Horus Heresy, including the defense of the Imperial Palace. They were perhaps most successful during the assault on Prospero, where a force of Sisters were deployed to provide specialised support for the attacking Space Wolves Legion. Due to their Untouchable nature, the Sisters were proof against the psychic attacks of the defending Thousand Sons Legion and provided a stable bulwark for the assault to be anchored upon.

Their true fate after the Heresy is unknown. Some believe they were annihilated during the defense of the Imperial Palace on Terra, trying to protect the Big E's super secret project. Some also believe they are actually the Sisters of Battle, but I'm not really buying that theory (I'll explain why in a sec.) Another common theory is that they are still operating in secret aboard the Black Ships, rounding up psykers to be trained or used for sacrifice upon the Golden Throne. It is even believed they are part of the mysterious Inquisition.

So what do you think happen to the good ol' Sisters of Silence? Do any of the theories above make sense to you? Do you have your own theories? I don't think they're part of the Sisters of Battle, since they can actually talk, but the Sisters of Silence made the oath to keep quiet the rest of their lives. It doesn't make sense to me.

That's it for Fluff Talk Episode 2! I will try to post at least once per week, hopefully twice. I really appreciate all the support you guys are giving me, it really does help out alot. Any suggestions on what the next Fluff Talk should be about, shoot me a PM or post it here! Thanks again for staying along for the read, cheers!

I think at least a couple became the Sisters of Battle.

Spoiler:

In 'The Voice' in Tales of Heresy, one of the Oblivion Knights breaks her vow to talk to her rival Sister, and she mentions the 'God-Emperor'.

Sister Emrilia shook her head. ‘No one will believe you if you make mention of that. Give voice to it and you will destroy your reputation, for I will decry you. At best you will ruin yourself. At worst, you will split the Sisterhood.’ She glared at the other woman, dearly relishing the feel of words on her tongue. ‘Do you wish that, Amendera?’
~You are a blind fool. Arrogant and superiors.~ Kendel turned her head away. ~You and every one of your stripe are a cancer on the Imperium.~
‘I see better than you,’ she replied, walking back towards the shadows. ‘My eyes are open to the truth. Only one so divine as the God-Emperor has the right to tamper with the weave of history.’
At the utterance of the word “god”, Kendel turned back, a questioning look on her face; but the other woman was still walking, speaking almost to herself.
‘If there is to be war, it is because He wishes it. I am the vessel for His voice, sister, and all who are mute before His glory will not rise with me.’

To me that points to Sisters being devout and leaving the vow behind to better follow the God-Emperor, but as with all GW's little hints, it's just a teaser, it'll never be confirmed, it'll never be denied, there will be fluff supporting both sides of the argument.
