Anything will work, just don't apply too much.

Spray or airbrush will be much quicker and will likely get a smoother finish, but you can get good results with a brush, just make sure it's a decent size or you'll be there forever.

Personally I would have under coated black and airbrushed it with the green, but there's no right way to do things of they give you a result that pleases you that's all that matters.

Yes.

Stick to acrylic paints, which is most tbh, but if you were to buy certain auto paints, for instance, they may contain solvents which could melt the plastic.

Check out army painter, they have coloured sprays that broadly match some of the most popular GW shades.

A good way to make an uneven coat on a vehicle look good is through weathering, by adding rust, mud or scratches. Just dry brush the edges silver and add in pathes of drybrushed silver all over the model, then add bits of the original cover overtop for chipping effect and wash it. For rust spots just drybrush the area silver then brown then a mix of brown/orange then just orange and wash. Looks great. For mud on the bottom just dryrbush an area brown and add clumbs of brown flock and paint the whole area like mud and wash brown for that wet looking effect.

Now, due to detailing etc.. the area isn't symmetrical and, even having measured it out etc the stripes, while being technically correct, didn't look right. Having made multiple attempts to get it looking right I give up and weathered the feth out of it. Looks awesome now!
