What is the appeal with post-heresy EC's

Hey its been a while and i thought i would start a thread that covers a nagging question of mine. I am a big EC fan the only ones that are loved more are the WB's and Thousand Sons, yet i cannot find the appeal to them when they became hedonist, the garish colors and the change from perfection to pleasure is hard for me to enjoy. I have scoured through their fluff and even read the new book Angel Exterminatus but in my opinion what they became does not trump what they where.

But i am hoping for a good discussion each time i look at chaos i know i would need to go forgeworld and i just shake my head but that doesn't mean i can't love their fluff.

I realize that death metal is the classic choice and has been an influence on the concept of Noise Marines, but I really like pairing them with dubstep because it actually sounds like sonic weaponry. (I actually really like dubstep, but I will cheerfully admit that it is kind of an awful noise if you're not into it)

Yea, maybe its because i enjoy perfection in my armies looks stuff can look creepy and weird but not my main infantry. And as a glam rock fan i dont understand why their colors dont appeal to me.

I love them because I believe Slaanesh best represents humans ideal of pure evil in our world. Excess is our greatest sin I think all the worlds evils stems from people's never ending desire for more. I also love the whole dark creepy mix of sex and violence, when I did my EC I was thinking the mindset of Silent Hill or the Excorsist type disturbing horror.

I also think the EC story of their fall is the best, they made the great error of believing perfection was something that is actually possible to be achieved. The Iron Hands understood that they should always strive to the idea of perfection but knew it could never be achieved. The EC thought that they were already perfect or close to it and this lead to vanity, hubris, arrogance, and narcissism. Take these already terrible qualities and throw a sword possessed by a Keeper of Secrets in the mix and you wind up with the post Heresy Emperors Children. Still on there quest to obtain perfection but now with all morality, decency, and honor removed. See in there eyes there goal is still the same they are still seeking perfection to gain the greatest enlightenment through slaanesh possible. To them perfection is not being bound by any rules or limits. To everyone else they are just depraved sadists and extreme hedonists, to them they are still achieving perfection.

Nobody ever claimed everyone would enjoy every aspect of the 40k universe.

You may not see the appeal in the EC, but that's no different than not seeing the appeal in Tau or Eldar or even Space Marines.

I don't see any appeal in Slannesh myself, I like the other 3 gods better, but I can understand that it may appeal to other people.

GW put out an insane variety of fluff factions to pick from, nobody has to like all of them. You just need to find what you like. its an all you can eat buffet.

I prefer fantasy slannesh, and in some ways i like how he was written heck my WoC are slaanesh with a khornish mix with my marauders, everything appeals to me about slannesh maybe i can look past the garish colors i am sure i can do purple and something else with it.

What's not to appeal - perfection in everything, hedonism, they can shock you and “WILLING TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE ”
For me, they are the most interesting chaos marines besides TS and WB...
Pimp drama queen Fulgrim, Lucious, Tarvitz, Dementer, Verosian THEY ARE ALL AWESOME--- If they weren't pink I would paint them....

I think that people get hung up on the sex aspect. Way too hung up. Modern EC are all about excess in all things. Money, power, wealth, audio, visual, taste, pain, pleasure, hate, rage, torment, etc. Each individual EC has taken his private vice to the extreme. And the part that I love is that Slannesh has gently guided them, lured them, and almost given them everything that they have always wanted. Almost. And there is the rub and the tradigy. Slannesh keeps dangling that carrot in front of their nose, letting them get so close yet not quite there. Thus holding each member tightly to his/her/its will. And they blindly follow because ultimately Slannesh is the only one who will finally let them achieve that which they most desire.

For the record, my EC are orange, green, and bronze. Pink is/was a horrible color, so I didn't use it, yet my EC are still EC and no one has ever said anything to the contrary.

My favourite post heresy legions are the Word Bearers and Night Lords though, but Death Guard and Thousand Sons are cool too.

Who don't like the thought of a gang of deranged tentacle-rapists that dress in pink and does everything that a sane being finds naturally revolting? I love the Slaneshi warbands, they live only for hedonism nothing else. They need pleasure as their beuaty is ruined their need for pleasure increases, they must savor the pain of anything living.

I was thinking of painting some Emperors children, but the idea of an entirely pink army seems 'sickly' even for an army of excess driven narcissists.

I have an idea, when I get some noise marines I think I'm going to give each one their own personal colour scheme, some with wild zig-zag patterns, some of them purple, perhaps others with the orange that Jayden mentioned.
I'd probably paint at least one of them in the pink too though just to try it out. < Not going to over-do it though, few highlights here and there.

If anyone raises any questions about it, I'll just remind them that they are Emperors Children: who lost any sense of uniformity and brotherhood to their own selfish pursuits long ago and that the vastly different individual colour schemes are supposed to reflect that. < Makes sense really if you think about it.

I really want to build some of these guys though, because they're my favourite traitor legion, their distorted perception of pain and suffering and the way they re-define it is fascinating, they disgust yet intrigue me at the same time. Pure evil but perversely awesome at the same time.

I'm a big fan of their pre-heresy colour scheme more than anything though, the purple and gold go together like chocolate and peanuts, probably my favourite colour scheme of all the Astartes legions.

I think the reason people like post heresy Emperor's Children is partially because they kill people with rock and roll, and partially because that they live freely, in a way that we can only dream of. If they want to have sex, they rape someone. If they want a quick high, they steal drugs. If they're bored, they murder people. Who hasn't wished they could kill their boss, and spend their days sleeping with supermodels and shooting up heroin?

But we have morality to worry about, because we aren't sociopaths (at least most of us aren't) and we'd feel like dipwads if we decided to kill and rape. Also, we aren't demigod Space Marines, and we have to worry about our health. Look at Axl Rose; all those years of fething and eating and smoking whatever he wanted caught up with him. And, last but not least, we have the police to worry about.

I would think, in the new colours, you'd be looking at Naggaroth Night for the base - Xereus Purple for the main coat - and either Lucius Lilac (dry), Changeling Pink (dry) or Fulgrim Pink (edge) for the highlights.
Doing it in that order, you might not even need a wash at all.

Kind of getting into Painting & Modelling board territory here, but... the key is to recognise the difference between "cold" and "warm" colours. Here, you want the purple to be on the warmer side as this is what makes it look richer - you don't get that effect with pale or pastel shades.
