Nathanie1's Workstation - A WFB blog

Hello all,

There isn't a huge amount of WFB threads on Dakka so I thought I would do what I can to promote a system that I love. I have played WFB for around 20 years, I'm only 27 now so I was bitten by the bug pretty early on. As a child growing up in the late 80's early 90's I was obsessed like many with the Ghostbusters. This grew into a general interest with the supernatural and when I saw the classic citadel skeleton kits it lit a fire that is still burning strong.

The undead were my first obsession, but being seven I did not have a whole lot of cash. So when my friend bought the 3rd ed box set he took the high elves and I nabbed the goblins and the makings of my first army began. I loved the random nature of the O&G army and although I only ever won one game with them (my luck was and still is absolutely terrible) that army provided me with some of my fondest memories of the hobby (killing teclis with a doom diver from 60 inches away I'd a buzz that's hard to beat)

Since those times I have fallen in and out of the hobby, armies have been built and sold. At one point I had 7ooo pts of chaos, 3ooo Empire, 7ooo VC and 4ooo O&G, but it has all gone to the great eBay gods at one point or another.

I am now approaching the hobby from a more practice standpoint. I have recently got into modelling and painting a whole lot more. This was a side of the hobby that I have ignored pretty much wholesale for the last two decades. Asa result I would like to maybe build some armies that are painted and modelled to be personal and individual. I believe the only way I can achieve this is to keep things small and manageable.

I currently have the makings of around 15oo pts of chaos and about 1ooo pts of VC. I own no O&G at present but this would be the only other army I would be interested in reviving. Each of these armies I want to have a clear theme and narrative. This narrative may change over the course of the project but overall I will be building for a story, not to win battles.

Well it has to start somewhere so I thought I would kick things into gear with the vampire counts.....

Remember when vampires were just a hero choice for your army, when liche lords had stat lines that would make Sigmar cry like a baby and could lead hordes of skeletal warriors into battle. Me too and that's what I want again god damn it! I want to build an army that looks like it has all been raised from one place. An ancient force back from the dead and ready to reek havoc. I wish wight kings could lead a force but as they can't I think the basic story I am going for will be a necromancer who has come across an ancient barrow in the northern wastes. A mighty warrior king was interred here along with his entire household guard. This force has now been resurrected ready to reek havoc once more upon the old world!

The force will consist of a couple of blocks of skeletons, a block of grave guard, too units of black knights and a necromancer. I may add in some dire wolves and fell bats but will be avoiding zombies, ghouls, vargheists, terrorgeists and yes that's right, VAMPIRES.

In terms of modelling I have a few ideas. I will probably make the fell bats using the standard ghoul kitbash. I have done something similar for my scavvy gang and like the look.

The wings will go in the arm sockets this time and I will model more bat like features onto the ghoul head but you get the general idea.

I have also painted my wight king to represent the hero of this ancient force. I love this model, to be honest it is this guy that he whole theme will be based around and now that he is done I have a basic colour scheme that I can carry on with across the board.

WIP

And now complete

For some reason he looks a lot more brightly coloured in the images than in reality but you get the gist.

Anyway it's a start and I look forward to seeing where it goes. Hope some people find this blog amongst the swirl of 40k-ness and like what they see.

Nathanie1 out

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's a few old shots of my chaos stuff, what will be used in the army anyway
