Bullet question

I would imagine this one will be easy for the American posters I've knocked up some 3d MP40 9mm parabellum bullets and need some help on colours. The reference pictures I've found show them as being one colour, which I'm assuming is brass. I thought that the shell would be brass but the actual projectile part would be lead. Am I right / wrong or it could be either?

Bullet question

Yes the shell casing is typically brass, with some manufacturers using a steel, most notably the Russians. The bullet is lead, but usually coated in a copper or sometimes brass or bronze mixed metal. This is the "full metal jacket".

Hollow point bullets are jacketed with copper/brass/bronze as well, except at the very top where the divet is you can usually see the lead.

Pretty much any variation is acceptable, and will be accurate to what exists.

Bullet question

Yeah, FMJ rounds will be completely coated in copper. Soft tips will be mostly coated in copper, but a portion of the tip will be left clear of it, so that it can mushroom out when it impacts causing more damage. Hollow points work on a similar design, but come either soft tipped, or full jacketed.
