Help with white layering...please?

Ok, I'm working diligently on my ravenwing bikers and I am a complete novice! I've read a few articles and decided on my colors, however my technique and brush control are far from decent hehehe. I wouldn't say they're slop, and I'm learning and ok with that, however I want them to look as good as they can while I'm learning. Anyway....the question is, I've read about using washes to tie harsh/imperfect highlights together a little more. On my ravenwing icons and fairings I've started with dawnstone, done all but the recesses then in admin grey, then a white highlight. Is there a wash that can tie these light colors together? Or should I just bite the bullet in this case and solidify the white then wash with nuln oil?

Please dakka dakka, lend me your wisdom again!

I would use a blue or blue-grey oil wash to finish them, not too heavy on the pigment. When I get around to painting mine, that is how I am going to roll.

wikkedj wrote:
Ok, I'm working diligently on my ravenwing bikers and I am a complete novice!
You could do a very thin glaze of the admin grey. And by a glaze, that means thinning the admin grey with water until it is almost see-through, and then thinly painting it over the whole area. It should tone down the highlights.

That is the usual way to tone down highlights and tie together layering - use the base color to make a glaze.

I don't know how that would work with white/grey, so test it out on a piece of sprue or something to see how it looks.
