Necron Sphinx Conversion WIP (Counts as Riptide) - C&C Needed!

Hey everyone. I've loved the Necrosphinx model since it came out, and never had an excuse to get my hands on one. I'm messing around with one now with the intention of making it a suitable 'counts as' replacement for an allied in Riptide. My idea is that I'm going to convert all of my Tau allies instead of using actual Tau models. I plan to make them distinct from typical Necrons (like their own subrace from a specific Overlord's court or something along those lines). Anyway I'm working on this guy and could use some feedback.

Right now as far as conversions go I've got an underslung death ray, some tubing in his back and a double set of the praetorian jump packs (initially just because I thought it looked kinda cool, but this also makes for a nice stand in for some sort of jet pack)

My biggest question is I'm sure whether to keep the feet or try and find something else to use.. maybe somebody has an idea. Also debating whether to tack something onto the tail. I do plan to put something on the other sides of the arms, though I'm not quite sure what yet. I'd love any C&C.

Necron Sphinx Conversion WIP (Counts as Riptide) - C&C Needed!

That is a very cool idea, the use of oddball Necrons will be very cool to see. I know what you mean about needing an excuse to use that Necrosphinx model, it is very cool. I may use one as a Tzeentch Soulgrinder with allied Daemons one day. Ushabti would make awesome Crisis suits, they are very big and well detailed.

The feet look beast-like and I can't think of anything to replace them. I think you need to consider is that what you want? Is it in your mind partly ceremonial. If it is then the feet could be beast-like and symbolic. Also you could introduce some fluff that your Necron Riptide was once a semi-sentient pet of your Necron boss back when they were alive. He has his favourite pet transmuted into a living metal construct. Obviously this pet would benefit from a far better robo body that most common Necrons as Necrons bosses seem to take a "screw the lower classes" attitude in their doings. In this way you can keep the feet and say it was a centaur-like alien pet of some kind and is now programed with the correct knowledge to shoot it's guns.

What I suggest is that you make sure that you are consitent with any 'counts as' models. You don't want to confuse your opponent as it makes for a bad game.

The look of your Necrosphinx/Riptide is very impressive. Try to go with additions that resemble the weapons or upgrades the normal Riptide has. I don't know the exact rules for the Riptide but it seems to have some sort of big shield to give it an invunerable save. If you use this on yours try to use something that looks like a shield so your opponet has an idea what it is. The Dark Eldar Cronos spirit vortex would be a good start, it's weird and whirly looking and would fit with Necrons or Khemri types.

Hope this helps

They're another model set I've wanted an excuse to use for a while too haha.

Leech wrote:The feet look beast-like and I can't think of anything to replace them. The only alternative I've thought of thus far is to use something like Dreadnought feet but my gut tells me that won't look too great. I really like the fluff idea about it being the mind of a former pet.

Leech wrote:The look of your Necrosphinx/Riptide is very impressive. I was actually looking at ways to use a pair of Lychguard shields to represent the Riptide's invul save.

Perhaps for the feet, I would go for either dreadnought feet or helldrake talons, just file the plates smooth and re adjust the fingers so the hand is flat, other then that the model looks great!!
