Nature of Slaanesh

So as I understand it, Gods are somewhat specific to the race - given that we all "think" and "feel" differently. Different cultures, instincts, associations, etc.
This is why Khaine and Khorne are distinct, for instance.

So, what is Slaanesh? A human-Eldar hybrid? Initially Eldar, but subsumed later by Humans? Does he break the mold of race-specific dieties? He still feasts and lusts after Eldar souls in particular, so he can't be an entirely human machination, or even significantly one. Also: If the Gods must be maintained by worship and emotions - wouldn't his birth pangs killing off the vast majority of the Eldar population almost kill him outright?

Nature of Slaanesh

He's more the manifestation of something that always existed. The massive push in the emotion allowed it to become a being. So, while lust always was there, it was the Eldar that were SO lustful that it became sentient.

Once it's birthed, it's ok on regular, you know... lust

Nature of Slaanesh

Slaanesh would have deprived himself of a long term supply of power and nutrition by consuming all the Eldar he could in his initial birth. That surge of power is how he rocketed from being nothing to being one of the major powers in the warp. But then Slaanesh is a god of excess not restraint.

However Slaanesh isn't stupid. Without a new ongoing source of power, Slaanesh wouldn't have been able to maintain himself as a major power, so Slaanesh has now attracted a new population of followers among humans, but retains a special fondness for Eldar souls due to its origin. Think of how gods were "exported" from the societies of their origin, and gained favor among other societies. Example offhand would be the Egyptian goddess Isis which became popular in Roman circles.

Nature of Slaanesh

Pennies vs. Dollars

Slaanesh originally drew his/her/its power from the Eldar, but switched to Humanity simply because there are more Humans than Eldar. Eldar may have more 'kick' than Humans do, but if we assume the Eldar race is equivalent to a thousand dollars, and the Human race is one million pennies, the latter is actually worth more.

Nature of Slaanesh

Not to mention he feeds from it all across the galaxy. Why choose when you can feed upon human emotion from Terra, all the way to Eldar souls within the webway?

She feeds from all. Just like every bit of blood torn from a body in war is for Khorne.

Re:Nature of Slaanesh

I guess you can think of Slaanesh sort of like a Flamingo.

A flamingo is noramlly white...except that they absorb the red pigments from the shrimps they eat...thus turning them pink. Slaanesh recently (in galactic terms) had a rather large meal of Eldar-etouffe, which dyed shim pink. Sort of
