I am painting a Shardmind using the Crystal Golem from Reaper. I want to use it as fire based Crystal Golem. Anyone ever use Tamiya clear paints to create fire? Any advice or tutorials?

Re:Tamiya clear paints for Fire?

So the thing about the Tamiya clear paints is that whatever you paint it over will show through in one way or another except the end result is gonna be glossy and shaded to whatever clear color you chose. Here's an example of mine. The camera didn't pick up to well on the gloss part, but you get the idea.

For the fire you see in those pictures I actually used the straight up clear gloss tamiya paint. No color, just clear gloss. Underneath is what I painted with regular flat paints from GW. I started off with Red Gore, (while it was still wet) feathered in some orange near the center and at random areas, (while that was still wet) feathered in some yellow further below that. Once it all dried I either added a red wash, or just applied the clear gloss over it. Using the colored clear paints will tint whatever you painted under it significantly, however. Colors like the red clear and blue clear are highly pigmented and will tint it darker than what you originally painted, just so you know. With that in mind, if you are going to use the red clear I would actually test it starting with lighter colors as your base.

Hope that helps.
