New to Fantasy 2500pts VC List

Ok, so i'm new to the forums and appreciate in advance everyones input

I'm and avid 40k player but with the recent changes to the game i have backed out of it and have been starting fantasy. I'm relatively new to fantasy(13 games under my belt, but i havent lost one yet since i do ALOT of rules reading and play mini-games with myself at home) and have been using Lizardmen(TG life-Slann is rediculous btw). I started using them because of the ease of the army and now that i have a decent grasp of the rules i want to build a VC army, i have been working on the list and this is what i have come up with, and would love your input.

LORD:
Ghoul King on Terrorgheist
Scabscrath
Aura of dark Majesty
Beguile
Aspect of the Dreadknight(when the inevitable combat occurs, this gives me hit and wound on 3's usually with re-rolls)
Trinket for ward against fire

HERO
LVL 2 necromancer
Item that lets me pick spells(picking raise dead and IoN)

LVL 1 Vampire BSB on barded hellsteed
Red fury
+1 Attack sword
Glittering scales

CORE
40 Ghouls with Champion

20 Zombies (necro bunker behind main lines)

2x10 wolves as chaff/warmachine hunters

SPECIAL
5 crypt horrors

1 corpse cart

7 black knights with full command and banner of barrows(VC hero goes here)

RARE
Terrorgheist

Mortis engine with blasphemous tomb

Cannons would be my biggest problem

The idea is to have the ghouls set up on the line in horde formation, with the CH's next to them 5 wide(yes, you read that right). Right behind the CH's is the terrorgheist/GK and my mortis engine. Cannon rules state that if a MI isn't killed by the cannonball then the shot stops so this should provide some protection for my general and the mortis engine. Combined with natural+mortis engine regen should give me at least 1st turn survivability. The necro bunker and corpse cart behind the ghouls with wolves on either side. This should give most of my army a decent regen to help mitigate damage when combined with IoN. It also gives me 4 screams(2 gheists, 1 mortis engine, scabscrath). With vigor mortis on the ghouls they should be at least decent, not great, not saurus or chaos warriors, but decent. Then use raise dead as a blocker of anything i dont like. The army marches forward 1st turn holding basically the same formation. Turn 2 the CH's and ghouls charge and hold the enemy in place with support from the necro and corpse cart. The TG's and wolves can jump behind their lines and kill warmachines. At that point, the BK's, TG's, and if still alive, CH's can single out and pounce on unit after unit as the Ghouls begin a slow grind. If neccessary, the zombie necro bunker can help late-game since by then they should be a pretty good size. And once again, use raise dead as VERY temporary roadblocks and cause general anger-generated face melting. Not very powerful magic, i know, but with the mortis engine i should be single-dicing IoN which is what i really want anyway.

The maneuvering of the army would be a seriously critical but i have been told i am already pretty good at setting myself up in the movement phase(probably from years of playing blood anges jump armies in a tank-driven 40k world)

How's this, anything i'm derping pretty hard on? (I REALLY like the VC Lord on a zombie dragon but i just cant justify it when the TG gets a scream every friggin turn. So if someone could sell me on that model i am all ears).

New to Fantasy 2500pts VC List

I'm liking the list, but, and this is a major but, is the monster mount really worth it on a model who literally is the crux of your army? Unless you're in a cannon light environment, I'd drop the gheist and get a level 4. To be honest, my personal opinion is that a level 4 is more important than a massive mount, despite what the rule of cool says. Hence the normal vamp lord is better. He fits the combat and magic roles REALLY well.

Which leads me onto the next point, the best sword on your vamp hero is the ASF sword. As, it effectively gives you a second quickblood character. Or first, in this case. Protection wise, due to the lack of decent ward on him due to the armour, I'd drop the scales and get him the enchanted shield and heavy armour(I think he gets the armour basic, but I'm not too sure.)

Other than that, I would advise on splitting the dogs into packs of 5, the rank won't matter in combat and 5 has a fairly small footprint and can redirect if needed to.

Other than that, up the number of knights.

If you want me to sell you on the zombie dragon, it is a combat monster, and in a large enough game (You need 3k+ to fit in realistically, with a combat character on top) it can decimate units on its own. Sure it lacks a scream, but it has more attacks and a higher weapon skill. Not to mention the armour save, breath weapon and swarm of flies. Yes the breath weapon is one use only, and it is only S2, but it makes cavalry quake in their boots due to it having the potential to do 2d6 wounds with a -3 armour modifier. And any enemies in B2B suffer -1 to hit it in combat.

New to Fantasy 2500pts VC List

Ok, so a few problems.
First, the Necromancer. Vampire Counts don't get an item that let you pick spells.
Second: You've got a blasphemous Tome, but you're casting characters are split between on foot, on cav, and flying/shooting. It will be tough to make that Tome pay off, and it generally works better with 4-5 low level casters.
Third: The general on terrorgheist is high risk, medium reward.

You're army is caught between 2 really good builds; summon or scream. Due to the very limited range on the casting bonus, limits on marching from the general, and the very limited range of screams, these two vampire styles don't mesh well.

The crypt horrors and black knights are both a little small, 8 horrors and 10 knights works best.
If you want to go with the screaming list, 2 terrorghiests, and the general on the Hellsteed works better. You'll be getting the same screams, but it leaves the general with much better protection.

-Matt
