Rapidly rolling the bottle between your palms instead of shaking avoids the issue, while being surprisingly effective at mixing the contents. I never squeeze out under-pigmented paint, anymore, and I haven't even added agitators to some of my bottles. If left for ages, I might lead off with a stir, but the rolling is usually more than enough for a good mix.
