1000 Grey knights.

I'm getting to play in a 1000 point tournament tomorrow that I wasn't planning on playing in tomorrow. I feel like 1000 points is a very difficult points value for GKs and can't really come up with a list that I like. Here are the two I'm trying to decide between.

Inquisitor w/ rad and psychobrokes 55

X2 10 man GKSS w/ psybolts, 2 psycannons 480 (240)

X2 Nemesis Dreadknight w/ heavy incinerator 320 (160)

6 man purifier squad 144

Total 999

Or

Inquisitor w/psychobrokes 40

X4 10 man GKSS w/ psybolts, 2 psycannons 960 (240)

Total 1000

I've also been toying with dropping a GKSS and adding in either a vindicare or a fully loaded dreadknight.

Any thoughts are very welcome. I have very little experience playing at such low points values. The tournament is for our newer players but all the vets are playing and taking "power lists". Semi counter productive but such is my lgs.

Cheers!
Ex

Henchmen lists are good at low points, because of how many bodies you can put on the field. However, if you don't have the models....

Coteaz is always a good HQ: PML2 makes his squad twin-linked + some other goodie. And his IBEY is a great anti-DS tactic--that combined with Warp Quake makes your core fairly secure.

Definitely take max psycannons in all your units.

A DKnight with teleport+incin is a good option, and can kill a unit T1.

I have always found the Vindicare to be hit or miss. Either she pulls off some fantastic shot, like killing a LR T1, or else she whiffs all her armour pen/the enemy IC makes his cover saves and then she gets obliterated. I feel like the DKnight, while much more expensive, is a better bet.

At low point levels, a Purgation Squad is also very fun. 4 psycannons that don't need LoS can really mess up the enemy. Hide behind a hill, or space out in ruins, and you can shot without fear of retaliation. Put Coteaz with this squad, and when the enemy DS mishaps because of Warp Quake, place the enemy unit in range of IBEY. Ten marines die quite quickly to a volley from a Purgation Squad! (And don't forget IBEY shoots at the transport AND the squad inside, once they disembark.)

Re:1000 Grey knights.

I ended up going with this:

Inquisitor w/psyker, rad, psychobrokes power armor

X 3 10 man GKSS psycannons an psybolts

NDK w/ H Incinerator and Greatsword

Total 998

Worked pretty well. I ended up getting first place by the skin of my teeth. There was a tau player that took a crisis team with shadowsun that cooked me pretty good. I manage to scrape out a draw against him on objectives and a lucky early game end. Both my other games were massacres. The dreadknight either absorbed all the fire for a couple turns giving my strike squads time to clean up or was ignored for a couple turns and then wrecked shop. The tau player managed to kite it all game but it did get one good flamer off that sent a squad of fire warriors scurrying for their lives off the board. Like I said, I'm not a fan of 1000 point games and I'm glad to get back to 1850 after this weekend.

Thanks for the input guys!

I normally play them 2x5 with only 1 squad having psybolt (bit of a waste of points - should put rad on the GM.) But, back OT, the GM has never disappointed me, having both dreadknights scoring (and if you are lucky, having counterattack as well) is all good.

to the OP, I find having Coteaz is a great force multiplier and he isn't that much more expensive. Even the base Divination power is good, but getting the 4+ invul save as well is priceless.

Usually they are put in transports cuz of how weak they are, but extremly dangerous up close.
You could combat squad them, five with Psycannons, the other five halberds. Get two cleansing flames. Pretty insane.

The strike squad is just all around great, mixed with Coteaz's IBEY and Warp Quake.

But yes.
Re:1000 Grey knights.

Purifiers vs interceptors

They serve different purposes. Part of what makes grey knights so good is the jack of all trades aspect of the army. The original list took the purifiers for the cc capabilities. 2 attacks each plus cleansing flame is very powerful. Very difficult to get better hoard control than cleansing flame. Few things better than watching have an Ork/ig/insert blob name here lose half it's models from a couple dudes. In most cases I take a 10 man squad of purifiers with 4 psycannons and coteaz. The dakka they put out is ridiculous. I recommend keeping the squad full if running them as a fire base. Every psycannon you loose drastically reduces the firepower they can put out. Interceptors are fantastic. 12 move plus a 30 inch shunt is absolutely ridiculous. Throw in a GM to make them scoring and boom. Fun times ahead.

My typical 1850 list goes something like this:

Coteaz

10 purifiers 4 psycannons

3 GKSS 2 psycannons psybolts

2 NDK tele Greatsword and h incinerator.

I didn't use to believe in the teleporter but since I've started using it its been absolutely invaluable. Don't leave home without one.
