But then I started looking at the models UP CLOSE. They seem to not look as clean as normal 40K space marines, I.E. I see a lot what appear to be "flaws" in the casting, such as tiny raised spots, on what should be a smooth surface(center of should pad for example).

I'm not sure if this was unintentional, or was designed to look less "perfect", since they are 30K..not 40K

Anywhoo, I don't think the problem is insurmountable, as the flaws can be converted into battle damage.

Can anyone comment on this?

Hope this helps, I would definitely recommend buying some to check it out first hand. There's a lot you can do to fix some of the minor imperfections, and the models themselves are usually pretty awesome.

I would expect more imperfections in resin, as well as some more modelling and prep required, but some things are ridiculous. The MK III Iron Armour, for example, has a stiff/thick resin tab protruding from the recess where the legs should fit. Getting rid of it is a horrible pain, made more difficult by the thinly sculptured and frequently miscast codpiece directly adjacent. That said, they are AWESOME. 1) Uneveness in some of the edges. It seems random?
2) Non flat surfaces, where they are supposed to be flat
3) I could see some intentional armor chipping in the Loken model, but I could also see some lumps and other imperfections that seemed out of place.

I have seen some really nicely done forgeworld preheresy marines out there. Look like if I take on this project, it may be a lot of work to get them to showcase standard.
