Anyone use a 1 part "tape" mold before?

Hello Im soon going to be molding a piece with a severe undercut and windows, and I figure the best way to do this is by using a 1-part mold.

Saying that, Ive only ever done one 1-part mold and It came out awful. 2-parts are my specialty really. Can anyone give me some tips and pointers on successfully pulling this off?
Heres a couple of instructionals Ive looked at that look promising.

http://www.alumilite.com/HowTos/TapeMold.cfm
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ7IyZEJcr4

What does anyone think of these? Do you think theyd work with opaque silicone molds? Im contemplating purchasing some clear rubber, but thats a double increase in the price of the rubber I buy now.

Thanks!
