MAKING A 40k Table

Hi, I'm thinking about making a gaming table (snow based) for me and my friends. But I'm wondering if there are specific board length and width dimensions and/or other restrictions... If you have any tips, tricks or ideas are relatively simple and basic they would be appreciated.
Thanks

MAKING A 40k Table

Uh... Do you play 40k yet?

I suggest 4' by 6', but I personally have a ping pong table. You could get a DIY one from Kmart (you're an Aussie, right?).

While it has a hole in the middle, you can play a game up to 4' by 10' or two games of 4' by 6'., all while having 6" each side for models in reserve, dice etc.

Also, don't go snow. It's a bugger to undercoat site first. Stick with sand and paint it brown.

MAKING A 40k Table

I have a 4' x 6' table that I built, but its a porta-table and it is only a sheet of plywood with supports around it and felted top that I can swap out for different colors. Its for bringing around to our friendly groups' homes so we can have more than one game going.

It cost me around $50 USD to construct. I use some saw horses (I built those as well for woodworking) as the legs and they are quite stable. You could section it off so that you have 3 smaller, more manageable pieces, but you would have to find a way to support them while playing.

And I agree, don't do snow. The flocking gets everywhere and its a pain in the tookus to texture and paint.

Ok thanks, Snow just sounded really good.
What about Winter badlands? ( some snow but also a volcanic appeal, black and ash for the most part?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And yes I have a sizeable ork force and I'm beginning a Tau force as allies.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
...
MAKING A 40k Table

An ice board could be pretty cool. I've seen the GW terrain boards painted as ice boards with the cracks filled in with water effect to make it look like real ice. Some dead snow covered trees and some ice balls and boom, winter death land.

Still, invest in a airbrush or some spray paint if you are doing a whole table.

MAKING A 40k Table

Maybe with gloss paint. White attracts everything not white.

Terran Scapes makes tables for a living and made a couple videos addressing Snow Boards

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPBTfPz6JIA

@09:32 ish. There is a couple more videos like this.

for making it on the low budgets side you could just use wood glue, sand , and paint over it with white latex paint.

Good Luck! Post pictures on what you decide and when your done, please.
