From Newbie to somewhat less of a newbie- A Blog about WIP's and painting. C&C Welcome.

So, I've been wanting to get into wh40k for a while now. I've been on the net lately just looking at things, watching painting tutorials, etc. Today, my Dark Vengeance box came in the mail with ~$50 dollars worth of paint and some crafting materials. I set up my table and laid everything out and realised "Holy sh** theres alot of stuff here.." I thought I should work slowly and figure things out, and so far thats working.

Basically this a blog where I am posting all my stuff that i am doing- Its pretty interesting to me so far, so i hope you guys will like it.

So, since i didnt get in "action shots" of me doing anything, heres an aftermath while some bases dry and i look at some of my materials:

The DA biker is basically my test model- i kinda hate his model because space marines dont need bikes, so i slap all my ideas down on him. I've achived a pretty blue base colour for all my DA's, now i just need help thinning the VGC's to where they arent washes and they arent primers.

Spoiler:

If you look at the bottom of the above picture, you see some out-of-focus bases. These bases were made using Elmer's Crafting Glue and LOTS of thinned down VGC Earth and VGC Chaos Black. I piled on the crafting glue and made patterns in it using a cue-tip. Then i let it partially dry and a put the wash layers on using the same cue tip (its insane but it works)

Here's some pics of the bases, C&C More than welcome:

Spoiler:

Tonight im going to read the 40k rulebook and "how to play," i've already skimmed it and it looks pretty damn well made. I honestly think they should sell the Dark Vengeance rulebooks in the gw store seperately, or at least one like it, because the hardcovers prices are pretty damn ridiculous.

So I did some more painting today. I primed and base-coated all my tactical marines after putting together every model in DV.

Either way, Here's the first mini i've actually painted. My camera is kinda gakky and it looks terrible on here compared to what it actually looks like, but it still needs C&C!

He's a Dark Angel:

Oooh, that second one looks much better, nice progress!

I agree with StamStackGaming, and special attention to keeping your paints thin. I assume you are using GW paints so be sure to NEVER use them straight from the pot. Thin them down a bit on a palette. No need for trying to achieve the "God-Like Milk consistency" you so need for layering, but just damp your brush with water and spread around the paint so it's thinner.

We can see some brush strokes so that means your paint was a bit too thick.

Also correct some of the mistakes like the plasma cannon, the red has some "gold" on it. There's no need to be absolute perfect, but there's no excuse for a sloppy paint job on an "elite" army as well you'll eventually get better brush control with the more you paint.

And you will learn to hate the white. To paint it with some degree with success you need multiple thin paints, that's why the cross on your knee-pad shows purple underneath. Thin the paint and do several passages. Once one is dry, paint it again and again until you are happy.

Keep up the good work!
