Nurgle Herald, pics + gif

This was painted as a gift, and I tried to match all of the colors of his army, and then embellish (a lot!). I ended up going a little wild on the blending -- once I started mixing glazing medium with all my citadel colors I just couldn't stop, so much fun!

If you have any questions about colors or techniques that I used, please leave a comment.

(sorry I'm going a little nuts with these gifs, but they are just too fun to make)

I absolutely love this guy. The blending and the colors just work so well togther. The rust is also very nice and adds nice contrast.

I am curious about the colors you used for the rust, if you wouldn't mind sharing. And if you are feeling very generous maybe share how you did the horns as well.

Really nice paint job and the browns and greens really make it rotten looking. I never used to like this model, but this makes me want to get one of those models.
Mind sharing how you made the animations?

Re:Nurgle Herald, pics + gif

Thanks for the comments, guys.

@olim: I wasn't a huge fan of this guy either -- something about the pose. But I really enjoyed painting him. There are all kinds of fun parts to work on in all kinds of ways.
Regarding the photography, I quickly wrote down some of the process on my site here: http://www.warandpaint.com/2013/06/360-rotating-gifs/

@UnCool Villain: For the rust I did this:
Basecoat Tin Bitz (older, dark metallic color)
Washed with Vallejo Pigments Broum Iron Oxide
Washed with Devlan Mud (Agrax Earthshade)
Then Highlighted with Troll Slayer Orange, which I then glazed progressively more white into edge highlights on just the most raised areas.

The horns were quite easy:
Start with a base of Karak Stone
Wash with brown (Agrax Earthshade)
then gradually keep adding Bleached Bone (Ushabti Bone) with glazing medium to the areas you want progressively lighter, which in this case were the tips.

The trick with glazing is to just work on the whole model at once, applying very thin layers to areas you want to change the look of, moving on, and then reapplying it to the same areas once it's a bit more dry. It sounds very daunting until you actually start doing it, and then you cannot stop because it's too effective!
