But also I've recently got back into the hobby after about 10years out of it.
I'm in the processing of collecting a Hawk Lords Space Marine army and was thinking about using the Blood Angel codex for use in terms of gaming because I love the Sanguinary Guard and despite their not being much fluff on the hawk lords, they do seem to be experts in the aerial attacks. So Blood Angels seems like the right way to go I feel. This i feel is fairly straight forward I use the BA codex, rename sanguinary guard: hawk guard or something, describe the red thirst as purple nightmare (in relation to the lost contact with the 7th company due to xenos forces). Does this seem ok??

And secondly I have modelled a marine with a relic blade and a storm shield and of course a jump pack. Now I was planning on using him as my Chapter Master but If I was using the BA codex would I be forced to use Commander Dante's stats for my chapter master? If not could I use the chapter master entry in the space marine codex allowing me to field the described marine above??

I'm confused, I never really played when I used to do the hobby and now I'm unsure as to what is allowed etc.
Just wondered what you guys/gals think.
