Impressed with Battlefront and Flames of War - New D-Day books

Hey guys,

You don't often hear praise on the internet least of all in forums. However I thought I would give credit where credit is due.

I have been playing games workshop games since the early 90's and I still love them, however as everyone knows there prices are getting a little silly. I first saw Flames of War a few years ago when I got back into 40k I loved the idea of 15mm gaming but on the initial look I thought it was going to be expensive (I was seeing £100 box sets and assumed you needed more).

So anyway I bit the bullet and ordered the new starter set the other month, loved painting the models and the game seems pretty easy to learn and is a hoot to play.

As soon as I heard they were doing new books on the D-day landings I had to have them I expected to pay around £60 for the two books (going on GW experience here) and was plesently suprised they were just under £40.

What I did not expect was the fantastic quality of the books nor the size of them!

Each book has a nice thick hard cover with 300 full colour pages, details on the campagins, units that fought in it and the lists to use plus missions to recreate the battle for normandy on your kitchen table!

These books don't feel like codex/army books of 40k or fantasy but more inline with the Imperial Armour books from forge world.

Heres some shots of the books as I got them out of the box

A rather happy Daston

The D-Day compilations are new editions. More information on the Allied Overlord book can be found here:

http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=3942

I'm saving up for the new Early War Japanese/Soviet/Finn book to be released in July.

Daston,
I really liked your presentation even if some of the pictures are fuzzy. It's a small thing but the blue as a background seems appropriate.

The thing I like about Battlefront is they are all about making the FoW game experiance as enjoyable as possible.
They give great support on their web site.Especially for their brilliant Open Fire starter set.(Full guides on assembly and painting, and lots of vids on how to play!)

They also have FREE Briefings (army lists,) on thier web site. And FULLY suport Easy.Army.com an easy to use army builder for FoW.
Lots of helpful advice on their forums.
You get the impression they love what they do and want others to enjoy it as much as they do.
I am a fan.

Never really looked back since swapping the FOW rules for battlegroup ones.

Still like the models though, love that there is not really much you cannot find in the range.

It's what they did with the rulebook, and got them a lot of positive press.
As it appends, the previous versions are what my lot use - as I bought them and they borrow the, to write lists mainly.... :-) so we're good to keep using them, and I don't tourney play so it's no great loss, but just felt out of character for BF to do 'a GW'...
