Model height and mixing old Minis with new

Since getting back into 40K with 6th edition I have released Base sizes have changed and a lot of my old metal figures which have been upgraded to plastic are shorter or smaller then the new plastic one. Since I really do not want to replace all of my old figures with new ones how are you all handling this?
Replacing the bases is not a big deal and I do not mind that but for the height I was thinking of just building the Bases up so the height difference is made up that way.
And has anyone tried mixing new plastic parts on to old metal figures
The reason I ask is I am going to be mixing the old with the new so for example it would not be uncommon to see old lead terminators mixed with some of the new plastic ones or a unit a metal wraithguard beside a unit of Wraithblades.
Is this even something I need to worry about .
Thanks in advance,
Mond

I put several older shorter eldar on rocks and things to make the height difference less apparent. Sometimes you luck out and they have tall hats, but yes, they still look strange.

If you have enough old stuff use it for the rank and file and the newer larger ones as special weapons sargents and officers ..
If not some fancy basing and a few slim rocks make up the differnce...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Worry about not really ..but if you want better asthetics then yea

I can't speak on the wraithguard but have recently been playing around with enlarging my oldschool plastic terminators.

I sawed one in half at the waist then split the legs to pose them a little wider. Spaced them with some procreate and then gave them a robe overtop to hide the seams and blend them with my Deathwing.

I think it came out halfway decent but wasn't worth the time invested. The rest of them are getting bases that are built up a bit to bring them to the same height.

I don't think I can get clean enough cuts with my razor saw to try it on the metal guys (that and they look like lead) so I'd rather have them short and detailed then bulked up and obscured details.

Edit: The new plastic arms look a little out of place on the old terminators. Just compare the assault cannons for an idea why.

Another Edit: Decided pictures speak better than words. Here's the arm comparison. All apologies for the blurry cell phone pic but it gets the point across.

The rulebook actually says you should use the base that came with the model, even if that means you're using smaller or outdated base sizes.

I wouldn't worry about it, but if you do re-base them AND adjust their height, that deserves a huge kudos on your part. That kind of effort should easily net maximum sportsmanship scores at every tournament.

Most people will not harass someone for not replacing all his old Broadsides with new ones or tearing their outdated 40mm bases off. Same with RT Ork vehicles, Rhinos, and 25mm Terminators. My favorite "legal modeling for advantage" unit is the 25mm Avatar. But when the opposite end of the spectrum is playing the extremely vulnerable and cover-ignoring due to height and true LoS FW Avatar, it's difficult to make a case either way.
