Returning player, very much interested in making...well, a return.

Hello there,
I used to collect and play Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 rather avidly, about two years ago now. However, I became very much distracted from the game and have been off playing Magic: the Gathering since. I used to play Orcs & Goblins as my primary army in Fantasy and Orks as my 40,000.
Recently though, I've made the decision to look back into collecting and painting again on occasion, and my first (hopeful) project is that of a full unit of Bretonnian Peasant Archers.

So, my question is this, as a now juxtaposed veteran player - what would be ideal to start painting with again; I understand the Citadel Spray Gun is intended to be a worthwhile investment but is intended for large unit painting.
Are there any brands of miniature paint better suited or more appropriately costed than Citadel's for use on miniatures? The same with paint brushes.
If there are any suggestions or even recommendations I'd be very much appreciative.

Thanks

Hi & welcome
I wouldn't get the spray gun - not that great especially compared to an airbrush set up. Plus there's plenty of different coloured srays out there now - search for 'army painter'.
As for paints either Coat D'arms, who used to make the GW paints or Vallejo.
As for brushes I would just go to a local art shop. You should be able to find different ranges to suit your wallet. The best IMO are Windsor series 7 but these are very pricey.

Great, thank you very much.
It's just difficult to get back into something that now seems so alien; I just don't know where to start!

I agree on the GW spray gun, i really wouldnt, if you wanted to go that route, there are much better options in airbrushes, albeit a little more money involved and like bubber said ( love the avatar bubber) stuff like army painter sprays can make light work of base coating an army. Recommending paints can be a little tougher, as everyone preferences vary, at the minute im loving vallejo model air both from brush and airbrush but i have recently ordered a single bottle of Badger Minitaire just to try it out, not to mention that i havent even tryed GW latest range. As far as brushes, i really like the rosemaryandco.com brushes and have also been using some of the brushes from premier www.premierbrush.co.uk and i like these also, for the price, great brushes, i lean toward rosemaryandco though.

hope this helps

taopaipai how long does a bottle of Model Air last (as you don't need to thin it before putting it through the airbrush)?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also Dirksteve I would never buy brushes online as I always want to inspect the bristles before buying.

I have yet to empty a bottle bubber, seems to go a pretty long way, through the airbrush a few drops can base coat 1 or 2 28mm scale, and from brush, 1 or 2 drops in my palette is usually more than i use. So tbh i cant really answer your question, i can just say that it goes a pretty long way and i find the VMA metalics especially good for brushing compared to some metalics i have used.
