Black Templar Master of Sanctity load out

I am looking to run a sort of black templar beatstick allied unit to go with my IG. I was thinking of having 10 initiates w/ CCW go with a Master of Sanctity, Emperor's Champion, and possibly 3 servitors in a LRC to run up the field and get in the face of my opponent to deliver a solid (and well deserved) beat down. Its not an awfully competitive match but at the same time no one wants to lose. obviously IG will be my range support, picking off the threats so my Black whiffle bat of doom can get to home plate. My opponent will be C:SM and i dont expect to many mechs that will threaten my unit. I know it will be a pricey beat stick so being that they are allies i dont want to go higher that 700 pts by too much.

So my questions are:

What kind of set up should I run to do this?

What loadout would be prime for a Master of Sanctity?

If i decided to run a marshal instead what would his loadout be? roughly the same?

Are the servitors worth it?

Any other helpful advise or tips?

Black Templar Master of Sanctity load out

It all depends on what you're planning to do with the Master of Sanctity. If you want him to tank shots and use Look at Sir to pick off Neophytes to proc Righteous Zeal, then you'd make him durable.

Foot Slogging with 20man Crusader squad:
-TH/SS
-TDA
-Adamantite Mantle
-3 Servitors

If you can keep them cheap and put him in the back and run him naked if you just want the Servitor bonus. Depends if you want him to survive the challanges as well. I'd suggest the build above either way if you have the points.

Marshal is good if you have loads of MSU or more than one 20man squads. The leadership of 10 is amazing for an army wide buff. Especially since you have to do a Morale Check after every wound during shooting (once per turn for RZ). I always build my HQs the same. (TH/SS, TDA, Mantle) Marshals are cheaper as well, so I tend to pick Marshal for army bonus and to save points. The rerolls to hit are good but it comes with a price (referring to Master).

Servitors are worth it if you're foot slogging. However, the squad needs to get shot at to take advantage of the +3" movement from the servitors. Smart enemies will ignore this squad until it gets closer. They don't want to give you free movement. Footslogging squads won't really get into combat until Turn3 at the earilest if they don't get zealed closer. I would only say take Servitors if you force the enemy to aim for them. You run 1 or 2 20man with Servitors and all AV13+ and Dreadnoughts in the back, the only thing his mid-strength weapons can aim at is the large squads. This forces the enemy's hand. Either shoot at the squads you want him to, or waste shots on durable targets that will only glance.

Good luck! I'd say proxy, proxy, proxy. You'll find army lists with synergy the more your practice. Try the same list 2-3 times then tweet it a little. BTs are a rough codex to play. It requires finesse. Don't give up, it can work but going to take patience. Don't expect to win every game, don't expect to table anyone either; simply think smart and play to the objectives.

Hey thank you very much for the insight, good to see their are still followers of the Templar way. It is hard to find Templar advice these days, seeing how its an old old old codex and everyone likes all the shiny new stuff. I love BT and still feel they can still be a good threat. With your loadout above I was thinking roughly the same but I felt maybe adding the FNP to it aswell. Is that too much of a point sink? I have the emperors champion to take challenges at first, I mainly wanted a chaplain for the litanies and servitors to boost them into battle faster. For that purpose would it be better to sink into points for a land raider or a rhino considering it is only one unit of BT I'm using? Would it also be wise to use a command squad instead? Witt he holy relic I feel that would mess stuff up quickly

MoS, TDA, PF, LC, Adamantium Mantle (6 attacks on the charge, 7 if you take the champ and AACNMTO)

That's a lot of points but it will wreck face.

For the Marshall: TDA, TH/SS, Adamantium Mantle.

If you're taking BTs as allies, I would stick with the MoS though, better buffs for whatever squad he joins.

Black Templar Master of Sanctity load out

Yah. If I didn't already have a large BT army, I would definitely look into using BT as an ally because you'd avoid the troop problem. If you only need to have 1 20man squad with MoS than the rest of your primary force can do whatever they want. But when it's a primary BT army, you need at least 2 squads and then you run into the problem of where to put your Chaplain (MoS). I run 2 LRCs and 2 drop pods. LRC can only hold 15 bodies though or 8 if they are in Terminator armor (a 4th edition "bug" if you will). We can't fit 16 models in a LRC for some resaon.

Anyway, the 2 LRCs have 14-man+Champion and 12-man+Marshal and the 2 drop pods have 8+2 (with Melta/PF) in each. This gets all 4 squads in assaults Turn 2. Very effective. However, 2 LRC takes a LARGE portion of your army and putting two of your troop choices in LRC almost forces you to risk all your scoring. I usually put objectives on their deployment half.

If you want to run a single large squad consider: Grimaldus (+3 Servitors and free Holy Relic), Champion, 10 Initiates and 10 Neophytes with Melta/Power Weapon(Fist/Axe). This makes a 24-man squad with extra Zeal movement, multiple power weapons, a challenge model (Champion), Litanies, and Holy Relic to proc when you need to win an assault. With Rage on the champion, this squad should throw over 70 attacks into them with re-roll from the Chaplain. Very expensive. 635 with Frag Grenades. (I don't usually take assault grenades but I think it's worth it for a 20man squad on foot).

If I was running this squad as an ally, you don't need the expensive (130pt) Champion with Rage. I'd take him out altogether and put a Power Fist in the squad for high toughness enemies. This squad is mostly for swarming and not so much killing MCs/Vehicles though.
