Secret Weapon Miniatures Realistic Water Effectiveness?

So I've been experimenting with the water effect for the first time on a base that I'm using for a local painting contest and when I put the water effect on the base it is absorbed into the cork within a couple hours leaving the tiniest sheen of gloss as an indicator of where it once was. I sealed the cork prior to this with an all purpose sealer so I don't quite know why its doing this. Maybe its not being absorbed into the cork and its just drying very very thin? Has anyone else had any experience with this product? I purchased 2 bottles and on the base I'm using it on I've used almost half a bottle. Its a 40mm base and I'm putting water where a pipe burst under a road. I applied it this morning with a little brown tint and its been an hour or so and its holding up...for now.

I've used it before, but on one of their resin bases. I did it on a samurai that may be in my gallery, but I can post pics directly once I'm off work if desired. I had no problems whatsoever with it. Didn't take much, and turned out perfectly. It may just be the cork as you've stated. May be worth putting a thin layer of GS or other putty down first as a lining, but if you seal the cork with something like varnish or Future that should be fine. Sealed cork flooring doesn't absorb water, so that should translate.

I've a feeling that you'll have to go with something more substantial than floor wax to seal the cork. A couple of coats of gloss varnish followed by a coat of matte would be my choice. I'd use a lacquer based varnish as well.

It dries thin. To get even moderate depth you'll need multiple layers, and if you're trying to make a really deep pool you might want to use something else (clear resin?) to fill the majority of the volume before adding a thin layer of water.

Also, it's just re-packaged Woodland Scenics realistic water, so once you use up your expensive tiny bottles just buy a cheap huge one direct from the manufacturer and stop worrying about using it up too fast.

Secret Weapon Miniatures Realistic Water Effectiveness?

Okay thanks guys for the help, I will totally do a better job on sealing next time with a couple coats instead of one and thanks peregrine. I looked around the web and I had originally thought those bottles were super cheap until I saw how tiny they were and that I can get a large bottle for a fraction of the cost (per fl.oz.)
