Re:LOTR

I'm gonna give this thread some love simply because I don't see too much LOTR stuff!

So I'll start off by saying your minis are looking really good, however there are a few issues/improvements I would point out:

Bases: With the sheer amount of 'stuff' such as sand that can be PVA glued to bases, and the relative cheap cost of getting some of GW's new texture paint, bases really are easy to do nowadays and will improve the look of your mini's tenfold!

Faces: I'm by no means an expert at painting faces, but a flesh coloured wash onto the faces will shade it and help pick out facial features. You could apply this to Legolas, Legolas and Gimli and to Gandalf.

The Necromancer: This mini actually the best out of the lot I think, however If I could humbly suggest, it may have been better to use a lighter base blue, and then washed in a darker shade. I can see you've done some highlighting which is great, but the wash, combined with some lighter highlights would give a greater sense of depth to his robes.

Gandalf: The same can be said of Gandalf - I can see you have attempted to shade his robes, but using a soft grey, not a brown may be better for this. White robes are notoriously difficult to paint, so I don't begrudge you this, but check out some online tutorials on white robes.

Finally, The Dead Captain: If I was being a little harsh, this is my least favourite model as the paint is thick and messy. However, I will say that if you had used the same scheme you have for your other Army of the Dead, then this model would be ace.

I hope you don't think I'm picking you work apart, these are just minor issues that can easily be improved upon. Good luck and I hope this helps!

LOTR

Hey Warpig... thanks for the comments. LOTR is a good game... kinda the game i cut my Wargame teeth on. As far as the tips go, you are probably spot on. As LOTR was basically my first miniatures game, these are some of my first painting attempts really, (and most made before i discovered the joy of the "wash.") One of these days I'll get around to going back to my old LOTR minis and washing where needed, and basing them and all, just so much to paint, and so litlle time...
