Need to find a replacement for baal red wash.

Finally ran out. To my dismay carrobug crimson is not even close(but does have it's own use. I like it for my DA) and I really need something that is close. I add a little black wash anyway so it doesn't need to be exactly as bright but as close as I can get to the original is preferred.

Any ideas? I'm not sure one can mix some up because it is brighter than the reds that I currently have.

Almost forgot. I'm actually using this on orange not red in case that helps.

You could look around for the old paint or you could just thin down a regular paint that has a similar colour and use that as a wash. A wash is just watered down paint really. So just thin a paint to was consistency and use that.

Need to find a replacement for baal red wash.

I'm with kb305. Paint-based washes work (much better, of course, when mixed with the appropriate mediums than water, alone), but using inks instead will give you something that behaves much more like the premixed washes you can buy from the various hobby brands. Won't comment on the color recipe, as I've never used the wash you want to replicate, but I use VGC red ink regularly with success, both slightly watered down as a glaze and mixed with mediums (matte medium, drying retarder, and flow improver) and water as a wash.

Re:Need to find a replacement for baal red wash.

I've been using the Les Bursley recipes and I'm pretty happy with them. Specifically to Baaal red, you can use Liquitex Naphthol Crimson with a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of black (like one drop) to make it i a fairly reasonable match. I say this having made this blend with my own hands, and as someone who paints a dark red army (Blood Ravens).

I'm at work and I don't have my notes in front of me, but from what I recall I'm using a 15cc bottle; filled with 60% matte medium, 20 drops of Napthol Crimson, like 2 drops of Carbon Black, and the rest filled with pre-mixed Flo-Aid and water. Something like that. You'll need to make an up-front investment of around $25 for the supplies, but once done you'll have enough stuff to make buckets of the wash, and you can add additional colors for the cost of a new ink, around $4 or so.

Note that the homemade washes like this will seperate and settle in the bottle quite well, so you also might want to add an agitator.
