Choice of Metallic paints?

I've used citadel up until now, but now my metallics are running dry (sometimes literally), and I know they've changed formula/manufacturer, I was wondering what are people's recommendations for metallics now?

Vallejo Liquid Gold are the best brush on metallics I've used. They're a little more annoying to use as they're alcohol based. Vallejo Model Air metallics brush on nicely and also airbrush easily.

I 110% endorse Vallejo Liquid Gold as an amazing product. No other gold paint covers the same; one coat, plus a little extra to for a few thin spots, and you're done. Yes, it's alcohol based, and take a tiny bit of practice to use, but it is worth it when you see the result.

Vallejo Model Air metallics is a distant second for base coating for gold. It is excellent for blending and highlighting Liquid Gold that has been washed, and as a general-use paint on Gold.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I didn't get on too well with Tamiya paints before, but I might give them another shot. (I don't like their screw tops tough, if they still have those).

The Vallejo ones sound good, and I use Vallejo model colour as my normal paints now anyway. How do their water soluble hold up to old Citadel?

How do new Citadel hold up to old Citadel?

Vallejo Game Colour (VGC) metallics aren't very good in general, though... tinny tin? is pretty good and a nice colour. Vallejo Model Air (VMA) silvers (silver, chrome, steel, gunmetal) have really good coverage, VMA gold somewhat less so but decent for acrylics.

Vallejo Liquid Gold really can't be beat, especially for the golds. You can get away with using the VMA silvers instead though as they're really good.

Re:Choice of Metallic paints?

Check out this blog post I did a while back... I did a thorough comparison of the major metallic paint brands:
http://atticwars40k.blogspot.com/2011/10/great-gold-rush-quest-for-best-gold.html

In short - several of the major paints are quite good but Vallejo Model Colour was the easiest and best after all my research. Vallejo Model Air colors are nice but separate WAY too easily and after a very short period they are basically all silver; as the copper, gold, brass, etc pigments separate - but that silver is damned smooth hah. Andrea's were also awesome...

Both Tamiya and VAllejo Liquid Gold are very nice paints; VLG being probably the best around - but for me, it was just too much work having to use special thinners and no water and in the end just not worth the headache.
