how can a Dreadnaught keep up with ravenwing?

so i was thinking about my dreadnaught model in my ravenwing army i'm building... how would he keep up? my idea for my RW is the quick speedy force that gets in and out, and a dreadnaught seems very outof place, as i dont think it can hobble along with everyone else.

what could be some fluff reasons about a dread keeping up with bikes? maybe i give him treds instead of feet?

The simplest option in-game is to give it a drop pod. Fluff-wise though, that's very much a one-shot that wouldn't allow it to keep up still. If that's why you're pondering it - fluff over rules - then treads sounds like a good idea.

Dreadnought Jump Packs, Armored Core Style (actually I guess Battletech jumpjets would capture the hulking "walking tank" style imperials bring to the table more accurately)! This needs to be in the next Blood Angels codex.

Fluff-wise I imagine that most dreadnoughts are held in reserve until needed. They don't really need to "keep up" with bikes because they are rapidly deployed into position by air/space superiority once a battle big enough for them to get involved with breaks out.

They would clear the area though, not leave enemies around to harass them. If the battle got really intense, its perfectly feasible that a Dreadnought could be dropped in to provide fire support. Then when the target has been destroyed (or captured), the Ravenwing secure the area and the recovery of troops and equipment begins.

The Ravenwing operate in a way that doesnt lend itself to drawn out engagements. They want to get in, hit on target hard, and then leave. Don't forget that most of their missions involve gathering information on the Fallen and tracing them down. If they find anything (or indeed nothing) of worth, there is no need for them to hang around.

Maybe Ravenwing do something similar?

The US Army does a similar thing with their tanks to get them where they need to be in a hurry.

In Damnation Crusade, Dreadnaughts are shown to be deployed as a second wave in lightning assaults. they either walk in, or they drop pod in. As for keeping up, Damnation crusade also shows dreadnaughts running at a good clip. Tankred actually charges a tau broadside suit fast enough that it doesnt seem able to get a good target lock on him. Its possible they just trot along with the bikes.

Re:how can a Dreadnaught keep up with ravenwing?

The Fallen huddled behind his rock, waiting for an opportunity to escape. He had to move quickly to the next rock or else he'd never get to the starport. All that stood between him and the nearest freighter was an open expanse of rock-clustered grassland... wait. He squinted to see the boxlike shape of a dreadnought plodding its way towards him. He also knew his former battle-brother was out of firing range with his multi-melta and storm bolter, so the Fallen got up and ran. With his lighter weight he'd have no trouble getting to the spaceport first.

All that the Fallen heard behind him was a loud FOOMP and a cry of "REPEEEeeeeeeennnnnnnn...!" fading away from him.

"Dreadnoughts don't make those noises," the Fallen thought to himself.

He ran faster, closing in on the launch bays and freedom from the Ravenwing's pursuers.

Suddenly his ears were filled with a whistling noise mixed with the sound of "...eeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNT!" and then a squishing noise as the dreadnought landed on the unfortunate man.

"YOU'D BETTER LIVE LONG ENOUGH FOR ASMODAI TO SEE TO YOU," the dreadnought's voice boomed as he looked down on the Fallen's crushed legs. "YOU HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO, BROTHER."

Soon, the word spread through the communication network of the Fallen that Ravenwing found a new weapon in their search.

Strap a rocket to a dreadnought and he'll find a way to keep up.
