Noob decal problem

I want to put a decal from the imperial guard transfer sheet onto a banner. The word "Cadia" is on the sheet, So I cut it out with a knife, and I was lining the decal up, and realized that it will go on backwards. What did I do wrong? How do I get it so word decals do not appear backwards when I put them on?
The way I cut the decal out, is there is the word on the glossy surface on one side, and the other side is just the cardstock it comes on.

(I have never used decals of any kind before)

Aha, dont worry. When you put the decal in the water it will separate from the backing. You then use a knife and paint brush to get it onto the surface you want to put the decal on. You can flip it wither way when its in the water so it wont be backwards. Then seal it when its in its final place and dried.
