I'd make one of those arks into a ghost ark. You can put 5 of the warriors in there, and have another blob of 15. This will boost synergy in your list, and honestly the only time warriors are better than immortals (imo) is when you take them in a larger unit than immortals.

As far as saving money, if you buy a CCB, it comes with a warscythe overlord with a resorb option, and the CCB is really strong. Just glue him to the base that comes in the box, and set him on the platform when hes riding on it.

For $18 more than a regular overlord, you get him AND either a strong transport to put him on (I love my surflords), or a very strong anti-infantry vehicle.

@James if you haven't built all the models yet, then I have some suggestions for you.

a) Immortals/Deathmarks. With these, make the immortals, then use warrior legs and chests to make the deathmarks as well. Deathmarks are a great unit.

b) From the bits leftover from the lychguard box use the praetorian heads and the staffs and back bits on warrior legs and chests to make Crypteks. They will make a huge difference to your list.

c) Get the Anni barges - they are much more reliable and useful.

d) your current list would seriously benefit from ghost arks, both from a regeneration perspective but also to provide cover/protection.

hth

Thanks for the help.

If I build both doomsday arks as ghost arks and try to buy 2 annihilation barge kits (have one overlord on foot and one on the barge) would that make a better list. By the way this is more of a getting into necrons as I will get wraiths and flyers later on.

Thanks again for the help! :-)

Having never fielded a Doomsday Ark, I can't comment on how useful one would be. On paper its nice for AT and elite infantry killing, but massed gauss handles the former, and a large volume of shooting wounds can deal with the later just fine.

I would definitely make at least one into a ghost ark.

ABs are solid, for 90 points they are very hard to kill, wipe out infantry quickly, and can still put pain on a MC. At S7, they also can kill light vehicles fairly well.

Deathmarks are ok. They play best as a suicide unit imo, and they need a harbinger of despair to do mean things to people. I actually find they get better the more units you have, as that means more things each unit wounds on 2s. Cron elite slots are kinda "eh" anyway, so it doesn't hurt you to msu them.

The problem with doing those conversions is that you will gut the number of warriors you have, which makes the ghost ark weaker, and cuts way back on your troop count. If you weren't just starting out, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

A good point here. So @James, time for a question on how you like to play. In the battleforces you get 20 warriors (actually I just noticed in your list you have 50 warriors) plus 5 scarab bases. Why the determination to get wraiths and flyers? Wraiths are our premier CC unit, but REALLY benefit from a destroyer lord. They are also $ expensive to buy. However, you get 10 scarab bases from your 2 battleforces, which will do admirably to tarpit most units (which, if you are running blobs of warriors is really all you need to do), plus will eat any vehicle in the game.

With 2 AB, plus 2 battleforces and a lych box, you can get 25 warriors, 10 immortals (tesla please), 10 deathmarks, 2 overlords plus 5 crypteks, 2 AB/CCB and 2 GA/DA. Thats a solid base for a 2000 point list.

If you want flyer spam, you don't need that many warriors (cos you have units of 5 in a scythe, maybe with stormteks). If you want wraithwing, you still don't need 25 warriors. The only time you need the 40 warriors is if you want to silver tide. I'd have no problem with 2 x 10 warriors in GA, 2 x AB, 10 scarabs and 5 deathmarks with veiltek as a base for a 2000 list.

hth

Automatically Appended Next Post:
PS wraiths and flyers are not budget!

Did you mean that you have more choice of units to mark?

Killme304 wrote:
He means that for now it at least gets him into the army. He will add wraiths and fliers later on when he can spare the jack to spurge.

Bad wording on my part. I meant that flyers and wraiths don't really fit a "budget" army, cos they are not cheap to buy!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So here is an alternative suggested list to @Inigo, which fits more around my suggestion of using some of the warriors as parts for crypteks etc.

Zandrekh
Royal Court
1 x VeilTek (Harbringer of Despair with Veil of Darkness. Also has Nightmare Shroud)
2 x DestructTek (1 Solar pulse)
1 x StormTek (HoStorm, with Lightning)
1 x Lord (using your spare overlord model from the AB. Build one of them without the orb hand)

6xDeathmarks (Veiltek here)

12xWarrior
13xWarrior
1xGhost Ark (2 Destructeks plus Lord here acting as Royal Court)
10xTesla Immortals (Z, and Lightning Tek here)

5x Scarabs
5x Scarabs

Anni Barge
Anni Barge
(1499)

So, the idea here is that you have a solid firebase of 25 warriors, a GA and 2 anni barges. You have 2 x 5 scarabs - these are for counter CC/tarpitting primarily. 5 bases are quite easy to kill, so try and keep them in cover or out of LOS (You can hide 5 bases easily behind a ghost ark if it is turned sideways on). You have 6 deathmarks with a veiltek (might as well learn to like deep strike!) and your ace in the hole is Z.

Get familiar with Z's special rule. Being able to take away special rules (hit and run, night vision, furious charge and counter attack) all are useful, but being able to give stealth, furious charge, counter attack, tank hunters is awesome. In particular, I get a LOT of mileage out of furious charge for the scarabs, or counter attack for the tesla immortals. In this list, tankhunters for the Royal court is also useful.

Couple of things:

a) I only used 1 GA in case you wanted the other one as a DA. If you want to try the DA, you can just about swap the DA for the Deathmark unit.

b) For the Lord, it is up to you whether you customise the second Overlord from the AB kit or just play as. I have 4 AB, so I used some praetorian heads (but you'll be using all of yours for crypteks) and trimmed off a bit of the cloak to make them less overlordy.

c) I haven't used your lych. In order to use lych you'll need to ditch the deathmarks plus a couple of scarab bases. However, keep the veiltek, because Lych are much more effective when they can flit around the board. Sword and Board Lychguard make a great bodyguard and are tough enough to take a turn of shooting when they land.

Couple of general Cron points:

a) Resorbs are only really worth it for troops when you max units out. So 20 warriors, 10 Immortals etc. Almost always worth it for Lychguard and never for Deathmarks (because if they have done their job possibly your opponent will be in such a rage they have no hope of living anyway ).

b) I prefer the 12/13 split for the warriors. You could do 20/5, and put 5 in the GA. In this case, split the royal court out. However, the Lord will be spare here (because you can only attach 1 RC member to each unit per overlord). I'd recommend you get more scarab bases from ebay and use the spare points for scarabs.

c) The Lord is actually a bit out of place - He's there to protect your RC when the ark gets blown up but you don't need him. I ran out of options to get up to 1500pts and he fitted.

d) Remember that the crypteks are characters and are also ever living. So, you can accept challenges with them and they get precision shots, Look out Sir etc. For the 2 Destruckteks in the barge, you can snipe out characters from other squads if you are lucky. However, the main giggles come from everliving. In the immortal squad, if all the immortals die, but the cryptek is still there, the cryptek is now scoring! He also denies VP in Purge games.

Sorry for the wall of text!
