Maynarkh Scarab Army - 1500

Hi all

I have come up with a list for a scarab farm army that I am in the progress of making. The general idea of the list is deploy with the aegis depoyed right on the centre line, blocking line of sight to my scarabs, then a line of flayed ones, and after that the necrons and overlord in a line. Scarabs behind them and interspersed are the tomb spyders. This is basically to protect the scarabs from saying too early. I'll buy time for a few turns untill my scarabs reach the critical mass and then attack with everything. The other thing is that I will add to whichever swarm I will need more. The basic ones if my opponent is mech or the charnel if my opponent is infantry (charnel removes entropic strike, but gives shred and rending to the squad instead), and of course I can switch half way if I want. Also wraiths hang back and charge the opponents before the scarabs to suck up overwatch and if anything survives make them initiative 1 so that the scarabs strike first.

Anyway, here's the list

Overlord (war scythe, res orb, mss, flensing scarabs) - 150

Warriors (20, flensing scarabs) - 270
Flayed ones (flensing scarabs) - 140

Wraiths (3) (whipcoils) - 135
Scarabs (10) (charnel) - 200
Scarabs (7) - 105

Tomb spyders x3 - 150
Tomb spyders x3 - 150
Tomb spyders x3 - 150

Aegis - 50

Maynarkh Scarab Army - 1500

As per page 46 of the Necron Codex the Scarab Hive rule states Canoptek Spyders can only produce Canoptek Scarab Swarms not Charnel Scarabs which is an upgraded version in IA12 so you would not be able to add to whichever swarm you need to, only the Canoptek type swarm.

I would also look to keep the Maynarkh Flayed One Pack of 10 in reserves and use the outflank ability they gain from infiltrate to come on from one of the short table edges, although its a random roll it can be a nasty surprise for your opponent, they should do this on turn 2 or 3 (note they cant assault the turn they come on but they do make another target for shooting that may conserve some scarabs or wraiths) which should be the same time your swarms and wraiths are in the enemies face.
Your warriors can advance with the Spyders on the sides for protection and the Overlord in the middle and get to the ADL, for the ADL i wouldn't put it in the middle but halfway between the end of your start zone and the middle to make sure you claim the benefit as soon as possible and the enemy doesn't otherwise assaulty armies that get first turn will love you.

Well.... That's a bit of a problem, but thanks for letting me know.

With that in mind, would it be worth dropping a few standard scarabs and getting another wraith, or more warriors?

As for the outflanking of flayed ones, that is a very good idea, but I will have to play test that. The same things goes with the ADL. The main purpose on it is to block line of sight, rather than anything else.

Thanks for the response

Maynarkh Scarab Army - 1500

I'd be tempted to drop the Overlord and 3 Spyders giving you 300pts to spend, then take Kutlakh for 220pts as he is just so good he should be standard for any Maynarkh army, especially since he gives fearless to his unit, has a 4-5 attack instant death weapon, has the Phaeron upgrade so your warriors can rapid fire and still assault plus his little trick of his that can potentially lower his opponents weapon skill in challenges to 0 so they can't fight back and he auto hits (just soooo good), add a Maynarkh Lord with warsycthe + res orb + flensing scarabs is another 80pts and your back to your original size, you then have a truly nasty fearless blob of warriors with a instant death causing close combat beast and a lord with warsythe for extra support, you would still have 6 Spyders to produce Canoptek Scarabs which you'd only be able to do for 2-3 turns at most before they are too far away.

But that may just be me wanting to take him as i'm loving his rules, play test them, see what you like and let us know how you do.

Overlord can't attach to flayed ones that outflank as he does not have Infiltrate or Outflank rules, only HQ's that have one of these could join them.

He also couldn't have 2 minimal squads of Canoptek Scarabs as this would take him to 4 fast attack slots in which he can only have 3 in a 1500pt army.

If i recall the faq right. It said you can't deploy an hq with infiltrating troops if it doesn't have infiltrate since they deploy at different times.

You could deploy over with a unit out flanking since they are both deployed to/from reserves at the sane time, and only one models beds the rule for out flank.

I don't know much about that imp.arm. Book but I was planning in doing something similar with the normal codex, minus the flayed ones.

Good catch Firmlog, so you would be able to Outflank (it has the same wording as the Stubborn rule which is allowed to be transferred to an IC) with the Overlord and Flayed Ones as long as you keep them in reserve, clearly me thinking of the Infiltrate part.
Also you should get the IA12 it makes for a good read and gives us some excellent units and rules.
