Does anyone know how to simulate a 'wet paint look' on your models, even after the paint dries?

I have this crazy idea for the first model I've painted in years (and I have begun painting him again - after sitting shelved for years, it actually has a color besides black on it), and I wanted to ask you all if it's possible, and how it can be done.

I just wanted to make a singular part of my model retain the look of wet paint that I see immediately after applying paint, before it dries. In this case, it's when I see my old Chaos Black drying upon his face. It is *perfect*, but of course it's dull when it dries back down to a regular black.

Perhaps something that is 'shiny' that could either be applied over the black, or mixed in with it (I forget what this was that I remember people using from long ago...was it varnish or something?) would do the trick.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Those are the only two then? Cool, thanks.

Any recommendations for which might look best on, say, the face of the Nightbringer? I'm hoping to make it look like it's still somewhat in flux, if you can get my meaning. So more liquid-metal-y. (I really don't much know the differences between the two choices when it comes to this sort of stuff.)

You can try gloss varnish, but using it over pure black will make it look like his face is made of PVC. You'll need to be clever with your highlighting to make it look "wet" (sharp light source reflections will be needed)

I haven't painted in years and was never really beyond an amateur, lol. Do you have any good examples of the technique you're talking about?

Re:Does anyone know how to simulate a 'wet paint look' on your models, even after the paint dries?

Here's a fairly uncomplicated paint job with gloss varnish over it (not my pics - just a quick google image search for "40k gloss" found this and other examples.

http://incunabulum.co.uk/blog/2009/10/25/animated-difference-between-gloss-and-matt-varnish/

You should be able to get this affect by painting GW aardcoat onto the area you want to look 'wet' - as you get more into it, I would look at adding some very sharp higlights too (although highlighting black is a pig)
