Magnetizing Guardsmen

Good morning folks,

Have any of you ever tried magnetizing guardsmen arms? My brother successfully did this with space marines, but they are a decent amount bigger. I know guardsmen are very small, and I don't have a lot of magnetization experience so not sure if it will work at all.

I am mainly looking to magnetize the sargeants' arms, who can choose between las and bolt pistols as well as between standard CCW and power swords.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Magnetizing Guardsmen

I picked up some 1/16" magnets this weekend for my space marine arms (in anticipation of the upcoming SM release).

I think 1/16" is the smallest they make and they are advertised for being ideal for arms and small weapons. I can't imagine they come much smaller than 1/16" so that would be a logical start.

Otherwise just drill into the spot of the arm and torso where you would normally glue them together. Ensure the drilled holes are deep enough to achieve a flush connection between magnets. And, as always, check, re-check and triple check your polarities before gluing

If you've just switching between pistols and swords you might be able to do that just with pins. Rather than doing the whole arm, just do the weapon itself.

Re:Magnetizing Guardsmen

It's generally a good idea to use the biggest diameter magnet that you can fit. Even if that means you put a bigger magnet on one side.
1/16 ~ 1.5mm magnets should be ok for the hands, if you can fit something bigger into the arm, like a 2mm x 2mm magnet.

To get an idea, have a look at what I did magnetizing the new plastic kit wraithguard weapons.
Just like the guardsmen, the Eldar wraiths are also slimmer than Space Marines.

Magnetizing Guardsmen

Yeah, I would go with a 1/8 magnet in the shoulder, and a 1/16" in the arm.

Or if you can...pick up another model?
I don't know how expensive or how many we are talking, so magnetizing might be worth the work.

Personally, I find magging the whole arm a lot easier than just the weapon....more area to work with, and not as easy to lose.

best of luck!
