the armies they let me barrow, including Ultramarines, Salamanders,
Tau, Thousand Sons, Red Scorpions, Chaos Demons, Tyranids,and
Tau. Ive played maybe 15-20 games so i dont feel like im a complete
newb buti still have alot of room for improvement. Im looking to purchase
an army for myself but there are just so many options! I would like to get
some suggestions on what armies you guys think are best and why

Since you have already played a few games and know the rules a bit (or more than a bit), you could also think about what type of army you want. Close combat orientated? Shooty?
