Modernizing 2nd edition Ork Warbikes.

I bought two very cheap Ork Warbikes from Ebay recently, apparently they are from the 2nd edition days. I think they look rather goofy by modern standards, so I'm planning to change them a bit.

Still needs more work at the back of the bike, especially where the ammo belts start from. And I realize that I forgot to remove most of the mold lines, doh! The arms don't have any green stuff on them, the previous owner had painted them green.

The golden shield is from an old game called Chronopia that I glued on. The second bike is unchanged as of yet, I must modify it as well and make it a bit different.

Any suggestions for improvement are most welcome. I would like to put something on the Ork boy's back, not sure what. Maybe a shoota with a sling around him.

But Ork Biker legs from the new Kit are pretty reasonable, Loota Legs also ride bikes well, Some of the plastic NOBz also are 'non-walking' so they ride bikes well.
*Consider getting a box of the NEW bikes and mix and match parts. You get a few extras in the Bike box.
*'Cowcatchers' is something new for the modern bike. It doesn't take much to make one out of bitz. Having front bumpers and scythes from extra chppas can break up the look as well as modernize.
*Plasticard I-beam + Boyz sprue ammo belt = Replacement for goofy oversized bullet ammo feed.
*Replace the goofy Evil Sunz face with literally anything.
*When in Doubt, Get new guns. Loot from extra Big shootas from other kits, or extend regular shootas.
*Shoota 'cup' hands + Choppa Arms = Holding the handle for new modern boyz.

I just rehab-ed like 20 of the old bikes, 10 space marine bikes and 20 of the new bikes that I got off ebay for less than 5$ a bike

Also, if you need a warboss, but don't want the FW warboss, this guy rides bikes PERFECTLY.
http://www.ragingheroes.com/products/orc-warmaster-science-fiction

I also Highly recommend the Forgeworld NOB kit. Not only do you get 3 NEW bikes which come with a full set of 'bitz' but you get 3 Extra tires, 3 Extra Ammo Feeds, A Really great 'TRIKE' set up which is really good for a warboss and 3 NOBz who are perfect for bikes (who come with 4 arms for handle holding since the double holder on guy will probably have a PK). If you drop the money for the NOB bike kit, and have bikes who need some updating, it is a great option IMHO.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. You have done fantastic work with your bikes, far beyond what I could do or even aspire to do! I will certainly take your ideas on-board and try a few things.
The FW Nob kit looks fantastic and it would be nice to have the extra bits that you mentioned. It's just a pity that it costs more than three visits to a Thai "massage" house. :-)

Re:Modernizing 2nd edition Ork Warbikes.

I would probably choose to leave them as close to the original as possible.

Personally, my opinion is to preserve as many OOP models as I can in my army. Just add that extra effort to paint and base them.

Cheers.

Re:Modernizing 2nd edition Ork Warbikes.

Each to their own, I guess. I have 25 of the old Grots that I definitely won't be converting in any way. They are grand as they are. In the case of these bikes, I just find that they look really naff and childish, they just won't fit in with the rest of the army, hence the converting. The 2nd ed Ork Boys have the same naffness to them that I just can't accept, all have the same unnatural pose. Head and arm swaps do miracles to them to bring them in line with modern boyoys...
