randomania -- Texas chainsaw massacre

Hi peeps,

I've been posting quite a number of things in the tutorial section for a while. In many instances I was uncertain whether the nature of my postings would justify it's presence their. Hence, I decided to continue my contribution in the blog section instead. I have many small, insignificant items to share that are not deserving of a dedicated thread in their own. In this respect, A blog will likely prove itself to be more suited.

For starters, I would like to show the end product of the 'waving flag' '''tutorial''' posted in the tutorial section. Although I was quite happy with how the flag turned out, I felt it needed something extra to make it a worthwile piece. I decided to add a western-esque scene to the base, including a boozing space marine, cactus and old-fashioned-something rifle. All stuff in this piece was scratched, mostly using sprue leftovers. The rock was made with the conventional cork routine.

Zerg-beer sippin' spacemarine:

The 'greenish' crap on the marines chest was supposed to represent barf.. theres also some of it on the ground beneath... it just doens't show very well against the light background of the armour. Ah well..

As I was finalizing this piece, the incessant buzzing of a chainsaw a few houses down the road served as an inspiration for my next project: Texas chainsaw massacre.

The scene that i most remembered from the movie -and i think its most iconic image- is the one where leatherface is dancing with his chainsaw held aloft. So this I decided would be the concept of my next piece.

I had to completely dismember this poor old 2nd/3rd? generation spacecmarine to rearrange its limbs to fix it into the appropriate posture.

The saw made using bits of sprue. The 'apron' was made using a tissue and watered-down wood glue.

As you can probably tell from the image, the model needs a lot of cleaning up before priming.

I think the model is about ready for priming. I've made a simple base using bits of cork, bones and a skull. The ribs were taken from an undead model, the rest of the bones and the skull were made out of sprue. They aren't perfect, textbook bones... I need better tools and equipment to go to that level of detailing.

I'm probably not going to mount the shoulder blade parts of the armor as this would require them to be upside down, which looks kind of awkward.

I got most of the 4/5 layers of old paint (18-20 ago) off.

Hi all,

My Texas chainsaw massacre inspired model is about done I'd say. I probably need to pay a bit more attention to some of the details such as the eyes.

The images are quite unflattering in that they show a crudeness of this old, worn model that is not readily noticible in real life.. but I guess that is true for all macro shots.

It's probably not the neatest conversion to ever see the light of day My tools are very limited, not do I have any sort of optical augmentation to work out details that are too small to do with the naked eye.

It's pretty obvious I should have applied some putty here and there to hide those aweful seams.. I consider this a lesson learned.

Please do note that this would be my 3rd model painted ever... the hasty slapping on of paint when I was a kid excluded.

gr

I think his right leg is in an extremely strange and weird angle but that's my only criticism. The model in itself is FREAKING FANTASTIC.

We all see Space Marines with Chainswords, but it's the first time I see one with an actual Chainsaw! With limited tools, no less!

Fantastic work, keep on improving!
