I've painted (poorly) in the past, (same with the Mrs) but our son is 100% new.

I'm looking for something that we can watch to get a solid foundation of the basics. I want my boy to learn proper, and frankly I need to learn as well.

So is this a quality product? I'll have to look for Hotleads then, because the P3 covers setting up the work area, prep and assembly, each stage of painting by completely painting the the whole model while you watch. In the painting it covers all the core techniques in good detail, points out common errors, and give some tips on using advanced stuff like mixing medium. It seems like you have seen both. I'm trying to decide between the two.

If I were you I would look for videos on youtube covering the absolute basics of miniafure prepping and painting. There are tons of decent videos and they are all free.

I actually own both the hot lead series and the p3 dvd and have used techniques from both, but have learned quite a bit more from the hot lead series. MWG can be good, and Massivevoodoo has some good tutorials that are picture-based.
