IG standard bearers

straight to the point, if a standard bearer dies, another guardsman should be able to pick up the standard. it doesnt take any kind of skill to carry a flag and the platoon or regiment would want it flying even if the original holder was killed.

got the idea from reading imperial glory. a couple guardsmen in the risked (and forfeited) their lives to save their standard. I'd love to see that in play

Would it be a compulsory choice? Would the model recovering the flag have to drop the gear they may be holding which stopped them selecting it at the beginning of the game?

I would say a certain amount of points for the unit to carry the flag. maybe forfeit a turn of shooting or CC attacks on that one model to pick it back up. maybe only lasgun troops can pick it up as well.

That reeks a little of having your cake and eating it too if your special weapons are somehow protected from losing it to the banner.

I'd be fine with it being kind if like a LOS, the banner just jumps to the nearest model.

It's kind of the part of the 40k general stupid balancing rules that models cannot pick up dropped weapon and equipment, so banners shouldn't be different.

If you want to pick up some dead guys' weapon and so, go play Warmahordes.

Nope, since 6th edition, troops became too stupid to take up their fallen comrades equipment.

The old causality rules (Remove not the front model, but any the owner wishes) was explained with that. It's not that the plasma Gun soldier was previous to all damage until there was just 3 guards left in the squad, but because the gun was taken from the corpse of the last dude that had it.

... And for the sergeant that was almost the last to stand... well... erm... he was just THAT awesome, okay?

It also allow for more tactical moves, like flanking unit to shoot down valuable models which would be screened by the expendable mooks otherwise.

IG standard bearers

I like look out sir on the bearer. not special weapons picking up the banner. if anyone was allowed to pick it up it would have to be other lasgun guardsmen. and not so fast as to just choose another model to kill, but that troop would have to actually spend a turn picking it up. either a missed shooting, or missed attacks in CC. I see the banner being more important to the guardsmen than some plasma gun
